Re: Tube Distortion

There are plenty of them out there like Chandler, Tube Works, Dean Markley, Ibanez Tube King, etc.

Is there one??? not overdrive but pure distorion but pure analog?
Thanks.

It helps if you let us know what kind of distortion you're looking for. There are lots of good distortion pedals out there and quite a few that are all tube.

Re: Tube Distortion

Cool, thanks for responding so fast, I have a TS9 strutdeluxer moded and more then happy with it. However in my thing, power/classic/scandinavian metal I want on some more saturation but I don't wanna sound rack-overprocessed I steel like more natural classic sound, so this is where I am from, I wanna avoid
digital-anything in my signal as much as possible. Now that we are on it are there Tube Whahs??? Thanks again.

Re: Tube Distortion

Some of the old vox wah's had tubes. I am not sure if there are modern tube wah's?

No. Not everything has a tube in it, Dr.
I know, but wouldn't be nice if you could have a pure analog/tube frige, microwave and even the toilet ???

No, I don't want to have to replace tubes on the above mentioned items.

What kind of amp and guitar are you using now, that will help alot.

Re: Tube Distortion

Invadered MIA Strat, Laney Pro-Tube AOR, modded for more head room. JCM900
1960A Marshall cab. Later on after some work will be done I intend to put full-shredder in my Kramer Barreta with Floyd.

Re: Tube Distortion

Why did you have the amp modded for more headroom if you want more distortion?

You have a nice setup, a good boost pedal should do it, it doesn't have to be tube, a DS-1 or SD-1 (or similar, lots of choices) with the distortion set low and the output cranked should do it. Too much distortion will make the tone mushy and for the sound you're looking for, you want a tight sound.

Re: Tube Distortion

I bought this amp already moded, I loved the sound, it has increadibly clean powerfull crunch with my TS9. But some times I need a little more of that "powerfat" kind of Megadeath/Savatage/Electric Eye Judas Priest on the riffage,
If I get SD-1 or DS1 would make my signal digital once they are in the chain???

Re: Tube Distortion

Those use solid state technology, but it's not going to turn your rig into a Roland Jazz Chorus with tons of DSP. It won't be screaming 1's and 0's like a Digitech. I'm sure you won't be able to tell the difference.

Nope, they are totally analog pedals, they would just add some diode clipping which isn't a bad thing since you are running into an all tube head. You might want a heavier distortion if your amp is very clean though.

Re: Tube Distortion

Check out the Rocktron Silver Dragon. There's a tube in it, and it mixes clipping diodes with tube distortion. I think a few people here use it.

There's a huge difference between digital and analog. Digital distortions and modelling are one type and most feel that they aren't quite "there" and are missing something. Analog distortion (if done right) can be just as righteous as tube distortion. Tube doesn't necessarily equal good.

Check this company out for something cool. The Astral Tube and California sound pedals are great sounding and they are analog as far as I can tell. The clips they have sound great.
You have to click the "production" tab to get to the different pedals. Click on the pedal links to read more and hear the clips.

Rid recommended checking these folks out when I asked about a high gain distortion unit that provides all the distortion I need itself.

Re: Tube Distortion

Would u consider the SFX-03 distortion or overdrive. Most heavy bands dont used distortion pedals but lots of gain stages (usually in their HIGH GAIN amps)
