I know about the Greenie and the Bad Monkey. What other pedals of this price and quality are out there? I need a Tube Screamer pedal type to boost the mids and tighten the a$$ end of my 6505+!

Boss SD-1.
No joke, just change several components and it's a TS-808, for way less of the cost of on

The Ibanez TS7 is pretty damn good for the money.

What are your opinions of the GFS Greenie? That one has got my attention right now!

Re: Tube Screamer clones at $50-$70

Greenie is true bypass and has 3 bass levels. nice.
Boss SD1 is cheap and proven.
Digitech is cheap and reliable too. The boss has a touch more "grit" due to the extra clipping diode (which is the main diff. between it and a TS clone).
All are just as good as the "holy grail" 808 or a boutique clone. It just comes down to tweaking the circuit to suit you....so i reckon the GFS will save you a lot of soldering time.

I really like the SD-1. I had a Bad Monkey for a long time. The BM is a little too tight, and muddy for any use other than a solo boost. The SD-1 has a lot more gain and higher end. And there are tons of mods you can do to it. And... it's $40.

However, the only thing I don't like so much is that the Volume and Gain knob dont seem to work together well. They don't do very much. Instead of using the entire sweep of each pot, they each seem like they have Low Middle and High setting, and not much inbetween.

But still, I adore mine. It's my newest pedal and I've been crazy about it.

I adore my Bad Monkey. It sounds good at low volumes but if you crank your amp the Bad Monkey really comes to life.

Umm, why get a clone when a used TS9 RI runs about $75-$80? I'm confused.

Maybe he wants something new and doesn't want to shell out for the TS9 or TS808.

Also, a lot of people badmouth the reissues and would rather buy something that they think is based on older Maxon-produced pedals that are reportedly better.

Finally, some people just seem to hate Ibanez no matter what and would rather buy a knockoff than something that had the name on it.

I don't know; personally I'd get a TS7 if money were tight, a TS9 if it weren't, and a TS-808 if I wanted a real smoothie and had the jack for it.

The digitech bad monkey is a great little pedal for the dosh, works very well with my ashdown.
My recommendation would be to try a few and see which one is for you.

Why would you buy a TS-9 or a TS-808 at all?
A TS-7 IS a TS-9 with a different housing and it can be converted into a 808.
The TS-9 and 808 are huge wastes of money
