I have a turbo dx tube screamer and i had told a friend of mine that i was thinking of getting a boss sd-1. He said that they were more or less both the same thing is this true? Or would the sd-1 come alot closer to getting that zakk wylde tone and bringing out the harmonics better?

Re: tube screamer turbo dx vs. boss sd-1

they're similar but not the same

same basic use and functionality but with different tone...

for $40, it doesn't hurt to try

the SD-1 is pretty good, especially with a Monte Allums mod in place. Its very smooth drive like Pink Floyd. If you want something nastier then a tubescreamer may be the way to go.

Unless you can find a MXR ZW od for a good price.... I love my SD-1, but it is VERY modded, I don't even remember everything I did to it. Kind of a shame, it was a MIJ one.

If you're going after Zakk's tone, it is the SD-1 or MXR ZW-44 that you want. No question.

The TS and SD-1 are the same circuit on paper, but with different component values and different clipping. The TS9DX is really nice with the additional control.

Mr Charvel...just bear in mind that none of these pedals can do the job on their own....the most important ingredient is a big chunky (dirty) marshall. After that the differences between all these pedals is only small because they are used juts to boost the guitar level (especially midrange) a scratch and add a little hair on the edges.
Forgive me if it sounds like im stating the obvious, but i noticed you are new to the forum so i thought i better mention it.
You will read a lot of players reviews hating all of the pedals mentioned because they dont sound great as a standalone overdrive sound into a clean amp. They are all designed to be used to give a nice tube amps tone a serious kick in the pants. When you have the nice tube amp already overdriving, you are most of they way there.
ps..welcome aboard! and my vote is for the mxr....i have all of the pedals you mentioned in my case but i like the mxr into a marshall best (especially if you flip the internal toggle switch). Second best is the boss.
