Tubemeister 18 users....

Are you guys finding the high end to be fizzy when you enter high gain territory? If not, what kind of speakers are you using and what tubes do you have in the preamp/power sections?

I'm finding mine to be very fizzy and it really bugs me. But I'm not sure if it's because my speakers still aren't fully broken in or because the amp is fizzy anyway, which could be tamed by some JJ ECC83s.

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

yeah I dig it muchly. Its ability to go from pristine clean to ultra brutal, and do both really well along with everything in between as well makes me very happy.

power scaling is awesome too.

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

Yes there is some "fizz". Some owners claim it is the tubes, and have switched them out for a tighter sound. I found certain string brands were really causing it to get out of hand for me. I like a certain amount of that old school good warm, tubey fizz...but I do not like it to dominate. For me Slinkys cured the problem Dads and various Dean Markley strings really accentuated it.

I am using a well broken in v30 cab.

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

hmm.

I am a devoted d'addario user, and I have no intention of switching to EBs. Perhaps I'll try a JJ in the preamp

Totally understand that.

FWIW- this is a test clip I did of the amp in 18w mode when I switched over to slinkys. testing out how it would sound, picking dynamics, etc. Crunch Channel, gain a hair past noon, master full. B/M at 1 oclock, treble 11 oclock. I hit the Badass78 on here and there.

Please keep in mind I am just goofing here to see what it would sound like...this was not intended for public consumption ;) but might give you an idea about the fizz.

EDIT- WATCH THE VOLUME LEVEL AT THE START!!!!!

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

Sounds pretty sweet man. I can still hear a bit of fizz, but I'd think that in a full band mix it'd kinda disappear and may just provide a bit of extra presence.

I'm gonna keep breaking in my speakers and keep on reassessing things as I go. I'm quite happy with the recorded tones but jamming without any accompaniment proves to be a bit of an annoyance at the moment.

Yep. I love the amp. Wish my fingers were up to par. I am positive any minor fizz would be lost in the mix.

A preamp tube swap is an easy way to narrow it down. Easily reversible too. But if your speakers have not mellowed out, that will contribute as well. My v30 has been blasted for about a year and a half.

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

sounds like typical (very nice) overdrive to me - gotta be some type of bite or it'd be clean!

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

well the amp has great overdrive and is very articulate regardless of gain level, it has plenty of bite, but it's also got a ton of fizz on top of that.

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

lol definitely sounded like mild rock OD to me. Certainly not gut-wrenching uber gain :)

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

Aww jeez. Mild Rock Overdrive....

Somebody just shoot me in the head....

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

ok I listened again. I will update my previous statement and say that it's a good/mild rock distortion. Not overdrive.

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

My style of tone....the Guitar Player Interviews.......

1975....
GP: So...Michael Schenker...love the new album...could you tell us how you got that tone on This Kids
MS: (broken english with heavy german accent)....ya...thatst is mein Flerring V mit mein Marshall 50 vatt stack to get that mild rock overdrive tone..

1978
GP: Alex Lifeson..thanks for answering some questions..Hemispheres..what kind of gear?
AL: well, all kinds..but mainly my 355 into a CE1, a space echo, and 2 Hiwatt 103s up full blast...HUGE mild rock overdrive tones from.those amps...

1979
GP: So Brian Robertson..Live and Dangerous was your last album with Thin Lizzy...what did you use for that mild rock overdrive sound?
BR: well..um...puke...ok..yeah right..that was me Les Paul Custom, the colorsound wah, and an exchoplex.. I run me Superleads up on 10...only way to get that mild rock overdrive is Marshall 100watters full up....burp....puke....

Re: Tubemeister 18 users....

I have heard the tubemeister 18 a few times cranked live with different bands... they always sound very thin and fizzy everytime IMO... could be coincidence but I think that may be the amp and not speakers
