I bought this 5150 combo and the tubes sounded kinda...old. so i decided to swap them out.
I bought a couple of JJ power tubes and they went in ok, sounded great, but one of them was pretty loose in the socket. So when i go to take it out and make it fit properly, it pops out of the socket and breaks on the inside of the "head". anyone who has put jj's in a 5150 combo knows that they barely fit lengthwise in there. so i just put the old power tubes in there.
My 12ax7 electro harmonix showed up today, and when i put them in their sockets, nothing happens. they don't glow, they don't make noise. I tried switching them around and tapping on them jiggling them in their socket. the power tubes glow fine and make noise when tapped. still no noise no glow. are these bad tubes? I bought them from tubedepot.com maybe they gave me broken tubes...
This is almost $80 worth of tubes here.
the first one was kinda my fault but this has been a very bad day for tubes... and it's still morning!
