I'm retubing my amp, and have no idea what tubes to buy. I'm looking for a full rich tone with sparkling highs and thumping lows. I'm only replacing the power tubes. The amp is a 1967 Fender Bassman.
Talk to Doug at www.dougstubes.com He has a knack for picking out just the right tube to match the amp for the sound desired. WOW....I've said that in alot of tube related threads but it's true!

It also is not too hard to track down some good prices on the real deal. My 68 Bassman really got into the good stuff when I put the RCAs in it.
where do groove tubes fit in?
Well a lot of their stuff is just re-branded JJ stuff from what I understand(Tesla factory in Czeck republick). Usually, JJs get no love from you typa crowd.where do groove tubes fit in?
Or sovtek, or that shugang Chinese stuff.. GT is usually rebranded and repriced (more expensive) mediocre tubes.Well a lot of their stuff is just re-branded JJ stuff from what I understand(Tesla factory in Czeck republick). Usually, JJs get no love from you typa crowd.
I thought JJ's were considered good 'round here? I've always liked them.
That because you are not into the pure euro/brit sound .... so how did KT66s work out for you, remember? No love at all for JJ preamp tubes! :thumbsdow
Just my opinion.....

SED "Winged C" SV6L6GC's http://www.thetubestore.com/6l6gc.html
Closest current production tube to the old blackplate RCA's that your amp would love.
