Tune-o-matic posts very loose fit in the bridge

Hello all,

I've just got a new tune-o-matic bridge and am a bit confused cerned by the looseness of the posts. The holes in the bridge measure 6.6mm while the posts measure 6mm.

So a gap of 0.5mm or about 0.02"

This is a lot looser than other tune-o-matics I've owned, should I return it and get something else or won't this much slop cause issues with staying in tune/tone transfer from bridge to body?

Thank you

Did the posts come as a set with the bridge, or is this new bridge old posts?

If the bridge was supplied with posts you could try threading them into the studs in the body, otherwise I'd be trying to find the right bridge. Most sellers will give specs for you to check for fit.

Is this a Gibson?

My stock 2004 Gibson is the same way (and I didn't realize it till almost 10 years in to owning the guitar, when I flipped it over with the bridge off, and the posts fell right out). I ended up white glueing the posts in. Eventually it will be converted to ABR-1, so I haven't gone to extremes to fix it. If you don't plan on such a conversion, you might want to fill and re-drill.

Thanks guys - it's a Les Paul style but not genuine. The bridge is new and came with its own posts. To clarify, the looseness is between the actual post tops and the bridge itself, the stud inserts are nice and tight in the body and the posts thread into the inserts well. The post to bridge area is smooth not threaded on these. Thanks again

It doesn’t matter. The strings hold the bridge down. There’s no magic transfer of tone or other nonsense you read about.

Pretty much concur with this. All the tunamatic guitars I've owned have some slop once you take the string tension off. The only thing that might have affect with tone/resonance is the material the bridge is made of.

The advantage to something like the TonePros locking posts is your bridge doesn’t fall off when you change the strings! lol
