Has anyone ever had a TOM that was loose on the studs? On my machete I went to replace the Gotoh TOM that was on there with another Gotoh TOM and the new bridge has definite slop on the studs, I checked and the old studs are the same diameter as the ones provided with the new bridge, it just seems that the stud holes in the bridge are bigger. My google foo didnt come up with a clear answer on the question so does anyone have any experience with this?

There a fair amount of slight variability in manufacturing standards, that's why I've started using locking bridges. I personally prefer TonePros, helps keep everything snug.

They are like that because the space between the mounting point changes depending on how much higher one stud is than the other. If you raise or lower one side too much compared to the other, the screws will get a lot harder to turn

That actually makes sense, thank you. The old one that fits tight is very difficult to adjust, a bit of play would relieve the binding.
