Has anyone ever had a TOM that was loose on the studs? On my machete I went to replace the Gotoh TOM that was on there with another Gotoh TOM and the new bridge has definite slop on the studs, I checked and the old studs are the same diameter as the ones provided with the new bridge, it just seems that the stud holes in the bridge are bigger. My google foo didnt come up with a clear answer on the question so does anyone have any experience with this?

There a fair amount of slight variability in manufacturing standards, that's why I've started using locking bridges. I personally prefer TonePros, helps keep everything snug.

They are like that because the space between the mounting point changes depending on how much higher one stud is than the other. If you raise or lower one side too much compared to the other, the screws will get a lot harder to turn

That actually makes sense, thank you. The old one that fits tight is very difficult to adjust, a bit of play would relieve the binding.

Allot of them are. Thats why i was taught years ago when changing strings to only change one at a time. So the setup dont move.

Remove your strings, tape the bridge in place with some painter's tape, then go to town on the frets and fingerboard...

I use teflon plumbing threadlock tape to wrap the threads. It seals plumbing and kills rattles.

Eww, that would drive me crazy to wait that long.
Havent had one in along time. But i only clean maple strat boards every refret lol
Learning how to play 30+yrs ago. My dad had a strat with a maple board he had worn it down naturaly to a very heavy relic and never cleaned it ever. Was coolest looking strat ever.....naturaly worn so much that the local luthier told him when he had the frets dressed that next time it would need new frets and he would have to plane it and replace the fingerboard.

haha, I'd feel like I needed a tetanus shot if it were that dirty.
