Tuner pedals

Re: Tuner pedals

I wish there was a small tuner pedal with back-jacks. My Korg PitchBlack+ has back-jacks but it's too big. T-Rex makes the TuneMaster that has back-jacks, but it has the power on the side (terrible)! Guyatone actually has a tuner with back-jacks that is small, but I don't think it has true bypass. I'm not that much of a true bypass snob, but I think I would prefer to have a buffered pedal further down the chain, because dirt pedals don't always like buffered bypasses (especially ZVex).

Seymour Duncan should make a small tuner pedal, since their current line-up of pedals are small with back-jacks.

The Korg mini Pitch Black has side mount jacks but it's slim enough that it probably would still be narrower than a standard pedal if you used pancake plugs. The power is top mounted.

TC Polytune mini has side jacks, but doesn't take up much board real estate.

Re: Tuner pedals

Tuner Lite for iPhone is great as well...

I've been using Pitchlab on the Androids I've had in recent years. It seems to work well enough for a jam session or messing around by myself, and has some customizable settings. This is just one of the screens, it has four others.

Looks cool. There's something about being able to watch that needle move toward zero that LEDs just don't give. It just FEELS more accurate to me. Really nice for extra-fine tuning, like when you're setting intonation.

Re: Tuner pedals

Korg Pitchblack Mini is crazy accurate, and the display is very large and bright. As a bonus, it can run off two watch batteries.

I made a thread awhile back pondering the necessity of a pedal tuner with the variety of high quality clip on tuners. I use the Planet Waves Mini Clip On Tuner on my B-rig and for any run & gun dates, but when my Korg DT-10 died on my A-rig, I replaced it with the pitchblack mini.

Has anyone seen this?

Boss TU-3w

New improved Waza buffer or True Bypass. That should please GainStage.

I'm not going to lie, I've been joking that they would release a Waza Craft TU-2 ever since the line came out. I slightly died of laughter when I first saw it posted.

That said, true bypass is appreciated, but it's probably the black paintjob that really improves the tone.

Re: Tuner pedals

That much markup? Ouch. I'll stick with TC Polytune 2

Re: Tuner pedals

+1 for the TC Mini. Prior to that had worn out three Ibanez pedal tuners, bought the first one years ago as it was, to my ears, the most sonically neutral and didn't cost the earth like the Petersen tuners. When the first one started to get flakey I went straight out to buy another one, they were half price so I bought two. Seemed to do the job, but I really like the mini.

Re: Tuner pedals

I use AP Tuner on an iphone when not at a gig. It is accurate to 1/10 of a cent. Live, I use the tuner on my Fractal.

I might opt for this instead of a hardware tuner.

Mincer, what's the calibration range of ApTuner, & is it a good enough tuner for setup/ intonation?

Re: Tuner pedals

I have a TC Electronics Polytune that's been on my board for several years now. Great tuner. I've got a couple clip-ons too; a Planet Waves NS Micro and Korg Sledgehammer Pro. I really like the Sledgehammer Pro and might get another one. I haven't gone the route of using the clip-ons live yet, just at rehearsals at times, but I might start.

Well, it is accurate within 1/10 of a cent, and it has a needle or strobe mode. I use it for intonation all the time- it is really excellent.

Re: Tuner pedals

I just want to say, I've been using this $5 APTuner iPhone app for the past couple months, & I don't think I'll ever need another tuner. It has unlimited calibration options along with 138 different temperaments. Next step for me is some more precise machine heads. Thanks again for all the feedback!

Re: Tuner pedals

Now you have all kinds of apps. I just learned a couple months ago that TC has these beam me up Scotty features for changing sounds in some of their pedals using your cell phone.

I've felt like a magician the first time I used it.

BTW, +1 on gStrings. More accurate than my mini JOYO tuner ;)

Awesome! Happy this worked out. I love this app- I use it every day.

Re: Tuner pedals

Some love for the Kong Pitchblack Poly but it can be a bit shy locking onto single notes and Sucks ass in bright sunlight. Much love for TC Polytune clip on. Fast, accurate, easy to use and way more robust than Snarks. Snarks are fast and accurate but die of clip breaks all too easily when not pampered. All clip on tuners can be faked out in a live environment though so I view with caution for live work. Will probably go Polytune Mini next time.
