Tuning problem with Floyd Rose

I'm having a minor issue with a Floyd. If I over end or do to much with the bar there is a click/clunk sort of sound and the G string goes slightly out of tune. I retune and it sometimes happens again. I suspect it may be an issue with the locking nut, what do you guys think?

Re: Tuning problem with Floyd Rose

Pull off the D/G string clamp at the nut. Might have a groove if it comes back sharp. I used to have this problem a lot from overtightening the clamps. They're softer than the strings.

If it consistently comes back flat, your clamp block in that saddle is probably cracked.

Cheers fellas, I'll take a look in the morning

Where is the 'clunk' sound coming from? If it's the bridge ends, I'd be suspicious of the knife edges on the floyd.

I'm using 9s and it definitely seems like it's coming from the nut end

This was my thought.... till I read the below reply...

Also, if you do as Snoogle suggested, DONT over tighten! Especially if it the deck bolts in from the back. Sounds to me like the string is slipping in the nut slot.

Re: Tuning problem with Floyd Rose

Make sure the locks are turned the right way. The center line of the top bevel should run the same way as the strings. Some people turn them sideways, which may not be as effective on all models.

Once you get it in tune, try loosening the tuner at the head and see if that helps.

As well, check the nut slots on both sides for burrs, as well as the locking pad itself.

Lastly, try rotating the locking pad 180 degrees.

Re: Tuning problem with Floyd Rose

Floyds have trouble with 10-52s and above.

Did you just make it up? The system itself takes a wide range of strings. I ran up to .060 many times over no problemo.
The downtunecore freakos from sevenstring reckon .060 is thin but they think inharmonicity is a djent album.

Yeah, bought a used guitar once where they came side ways.. Whats WORSE tho.. I once had one shipped to me where they were upside down! Yep, v side down. LOL

10-52s in standard tend to very very slightly **** with the bridge posts.

Re: Tuning problem with Floyd Rose

Last time I tried 10-52s in a Floyd was 1988. I don't expect much has changed since then, but I suppose it's possible. I doubt it, though.

9-52 Light Top/Heavy Bottoms were the worst thanks to the thicker D and thinner G. The pads just wouldn't go lopsided enough to hold the D firmly.

Kudos to you if they never gave you trouble.

I know they work with thicker strings, I prefer to keep them light so I can keep it down to two springs. Feels better and allows for flutter.

F'king what? What the hell is 'regular' then? Power line cables?
