tuning problems

My Jackson is great and everything but the Jackson rip off floyd it couldn't hold tune for the life of it... so what should I do? I am thinking of buying this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/floyd-rose-special-series-tremolo-bridge-with-r3-nut and installing it and hoping it will work and that it is only the cheap bridge but I don't know much about floyd equipped guitars.

What model Jackson is it? i would go for a gotoh personally just make sure it has the right sized block.

If its a Korean or Indian Jackson, everything is behaving 100% as it should be (and no the FR Special would not help)...

If it's Japan or USA, thats mighty weird, but do mess around with your current bridge (or see about repairing/replacing PARTS of it only), because no the FR Special couldnt possibly help....

I would suggest maybe putting some chapstick on the knife edges and see if that helps. If not and you want to replace it I think the Gotoh would be the best option.

I am not really knowledgeable in floyd rose guitars so what and where is the knife edges?

The sharp edges that rest on the poles that stick out of the body.

The things in the rounded brackets that physically touch the posts it pivots on... Btw, if the knives are buggered, they CAN be replaced as a part w/o scrapping the bridge entirely. And some people even repair em by sharpening or some such thing

:28: Is it one of those Floyd Rose Licensed Low-Pro Jackson bridges? If so it's actually better than a FR Special bridge. That FR Special that you're looking at on MF is made of the cheapest metal that the Chinese can get ahold of.....really, don't buy that crap please. Throw a Tremsetter in the back and try that.

Yeah, really... Fix the knives on the jackson or block it off. If you really have to buy a replacement trem, anything other than Gotoh or Schaller WILL be worse (including new made in korea "Floyd Rose" branded Floyd 1000's, just did a setup on one in a recent hiend $1k-ish new Schecter Hellraiser FR today - seems nice on the outside, but the metal and the tool marks under the back cover look GNARLY...have an opened up disassembled 90s jackson RR3 w/ JT-5## lowprofile licensed on the workbench, looks FAAAAR nicer)

PS this assuming yours is a Jackson/Takeuchi = JT-### trem from japan

More importantly, which exact Jackson vibrato bridge is it?

I have a Charvel Model 3 project on the go at the moment. Its irreparable JT-6 bridge has forced me to look into suitable replacement units. My conclusion is that, if one expects the FR to perform to the max, it is pointless to skimp.

The question that you have to ask yourself is, is it worthwhile spending several hundred Dollars for a new bridge on a guitar that may only be worth the price of that FR vibrato system?

And if NOT, hardtail it via blockage/tremolNo/etc, sell her, and buy a functioning example of the same or whatever else suits you....if you want an RR3 japan, btw, PM me.

Generally, yes. Blades being removable on many floyds.

Everything is fixable or replaceable except for the Knife Edges. Once the knife edges are dull the trem won't stay in tune for the most part. I'm not sure if you can sharpen them as I've never heard of it being done. But you can buy a FR base plate with sharp knife edges so technically everything is replaceable.

Everything is fixable or replaceable except for the Knife Edges. Once the knife edges are dull the trem won't stay in tune for the most part. I'm not sure if you can sharpen them as I've never heard of it being done. But you can buy a FR base plate with sharp knife edges so technically everything is replaceable.

Some floyds have a knife layer bolted between two plates (bolts are under the saddles, hidden from view). Recall reading a Russian thread about a guy who ended up ordering new knives for a Jackson Takeuchi from a local luthier who had his own metalworking shop (and actually MANUFACTURED his very own unlicensed floyd copies for years, going back to - unbelievably - handmachined MADE IN USSR floyd knockoffs!!! lol)
