Picked this up over the summer down in Florida to keep at my bass players house. I was at Stevie B's and this caught my eye since I love Mosrites but I am not a rich man. They were looking to move it and gave me a great price so I grabbed it. Finally got it home and I have been playing the hell out of it, I love it.
It is very funky - a knock off of the real high end setneck Mosrites but it has the reverse horn configuration. Where as the bottom horn was longer on the Mos's this one has the longer horn on top, don't know that it makes much difference but the Mos's are a bit more comfortable sitting down than this one since it hits you a bit higher in the chest. Most of the knock-offs just use P-90s without rings but this one has original size pups it appears plus the plastic rings which give some room for error if I swap in a set of SD Mosrite pups. The pups sound very good which shocked me, never have I had such a decent sounding pickup in an import. They have very large none adjustable slugs and while I haven't measured the output I am going to guess in the 10 to 12k area.
It is made in China so I wasn't really expecting the quality fretwork that this has, top notch dressing, well cut nut on a really clean rosewood board. I have no idea what wood the body is but it isn't the lightest guitar. It is finished very nicely with a few minor flaws and some paint over the binding edges in a few places, overall very good for MIC work and certainly nothing that catches the eye until you scrutinize. The binding is clean and even on both the neck and body. It has cheap Kluson type tuners, 500k mini pots with a crappy 3-way (all functional but cheap), the wiring was clean enough though they couldn't have left more polishing compound in the cavity unless they poured it in.
The thing that has me kind of intrigued is the Wilkinson style TOM with roller saddles. While the guitar really seems much higher quality than a typical MIC guitar the bridge is really high quality and extremely adjustable. The trem hardly seems worth the effort, kind of a cheap Jag/Jazz trem but maybe I'll mess with it at some point since I love playing around with Surf type stuff from time to time. If it had a Bigsby I would probably use it all the time.
I was only looking for a beater to jam with in FLA but I ended up with a very nice gig worthy guitar, cool!
