Twangbanger?

Re: Twangbanger?

I like the combination of SSL-1 neck and mid and Twangbanger bridge. There is a very different tonality and feel with the alnico 5 vs. alnico 2 mags that takes a bit of adjustment, but it makes for a very versatile setup. If you want a fatter and more versatile bridge tone, then the Twangbanger is a great choice, and I really like the way it fattens up the b/m tone. But, if you want classic 'tweener tones, then an SSL-1 bridge may be the better choice -- a great choice for Buddy Holly bridge tones and Clapton's "Bell Bottom Blues" tone. As much as I love those tones, they aren't me, so the Twangbanger fits my playing better than the SSL-1b does.

Kelsey, I must be your clone especially when it comes to vintage setups. I just got SSL1 neck and middle and paired them with twangbanger. I like this combo much better than APS2 neck/middle + twangbanger. One word I can describe twangbanger is "Monster". It has its own character that I've never seen any other singlecoil pickups. It has Alnico 2 magnet but it doesn't mean it's melo or less articulate. Yes, it's not as articulate as A5 magnets but it got a nasty twangy lead sound with certain gain. Also, it is very touch senstive so I can bring the beast out it by picking hard. Very unholy sound. SSL1's are simply holy. No, 2 position (neck + middle) is just holy BBQ batman awesome.

Cheers

Will an SSL-3 in the bridge paired up with SSL-1's give me a quack when combined w/ the middle pickup? Or will it overpower the middle like the twangbanger?
I have SSL2 neck and middle and SSL3 in bridge in my strat. Honestly, I don't think No 4 (middle and bridge) position is not as good as two SSL2s. But SSL3 is so awesome in bridge postion and I am more than willing to sacrifice the N0. 4 position little bit. Also, there is alway no 2 (neck + middle) which I always consider holyer than No. 4 position.

Cheers

Brisk,

Glad you like the SSL-1/Twangbanger combo, too. If we're clones, does that mean we're really getting twice as much done? TGIF! :beerchug:
