Tweedle Dee 5F1 Champ and Tweedle Dee Champion 600 Reissue

nice! i think ive mentioned this before, but i have a 5f2, so same amp with a tone control, and mine has a 10" speaker. such a fun amp to play!

i like the tone control. i almost never run it full up, usually around 9/12. ill have to pull the back off mine and see how different the circuit is. thanks for sharing that

I have a Fender Champion 600 Reissue and I've always just loved it as it is. What does the 5F1 mod do to it tone-wise? And what does the 'Dee' mod do beyond that tone-wise?

The 600 Reissue circuit is the same as the 60's Blackface Champ but with a fixed tone stack. It is nothing like the 50's 5F1 Champ in circuit design or sound. The Tweedle Dee mod tightens up the bass and provides a smoother transition from clean to overdrive with less raspiness in the overdrive.
Ok, then what are the differences tone-wise between the 60's Blackface Champ with a fixed tone stack/600 Reissue and the 5F1? How does the 600 sound/respond differently to the 5F1?

a lot of it depends on the speaker. i have a 10" alnico weber in mine, its loud for a 4w amp, but not gigable without micing it

A Blackface Champ (all Blackface Fender amps actually) are very mid-scooped. A Tweed amp is more mid-focused. A 5F1 Champ is actually pretty flat in it's frequency response from bass to treble.

I suggest you search YouTube for videos of the 5F1 and Champion 600 Reissue. There are plenty out there.
I wanted to hear someone's direct experience based on in-the-room experience, not hype click-bait videos that have been processed in unknown ways, but ok, thanks.

The Tweedle Dee mod was intended for the 5E3 Deluxe. In that amp it makes sense. IMO what you did to the 5F1 was a 30% Tweedle Dee mod that makes very little difference. But if you hear it and like what you did, great, enjoy the sound.

i know the 5e3 tweedle dee mods, a buddy has built one of them. its a fun amp for sure! i have a 5e3 clone that is basically stock, other than changing the .1 coupling caps to .047. i tried .022, but went back to .047 since it changed the character of the amp too much
