Two 'buckers in series?

Megaswitches are becoming more common, so some unusual couplings are now possible without a lot of extra switches.... I haven't yet tried series-connecting a couple of humbuckers for a 4-coils-in-series sound, so if you have, tell me if it's worth exploring :)

Re: Two 'buckers in series?

It's part of the 4 push-pull Jimmy Page system. But it's very powerful and dark, not all that useful to mst players, unless... one of the PU's is in coil cut (preferrably the neck PU), or the PU's are out-of-phase. In those two situations, HB's linked in series are a nice option.

Two P-90's linked in series is very useable. You can also use out-of-phase with them too.

Re: Two 'buckers in series?

You combine it with out-of-phase and you get a very powerful, driven sound.

Re: Two 'buckers in series?

I DIG the sound of 2 single coils or split buckers in series. Especially bridge-middle in a 3 pup guitar (kind of a King's X tone), but also bridge & neck.

I never tried this, but it would likely also work well if each bucker was wired as parallel.

Re: Two 'buckers in series?

I doubt that two humbuckers with coils in parallel in series will sound any different from having the same pickups with coils in series in parallel.

Re: Two 'buckers in series?

The more things you line up in series:

The juice ADDS - 16k+16k = 32k (ouch!)

It get's darker. Migh)

But there is something to be said for the 'tude and pure brutality of it.

Yeah, so get two of those "quad rail" buckers that the newer Kramers had, and wire all 8 coils in series... ;-)

Better yet, rout for a middle bucker - 12 coils! You could jumpstart your car with a power chord!
