Two Questions...

Corporal Bias
1- What's a good 'lil amp, that has the best tone-price ratio. My problem being I'm a skinny guy and I'm not exactly able to haul my 212 deville everywhere I want. I'm also concerned with having this as a practice amp, I've been jamming with folks a lot but never outside my bedroom or uncle's house (he has an amp there). I don't have space to practice at my place, supposedly this drummer has room enough for me though. So what's easy to haul and easy to listen to.

2-Home recording, what do I get? (micing various things, and mixing them, I have software on my computer, I just don't dig my pod and want to mic my amp as well as other instruments)

Re: Two Questions...

for lightweight (compared to all valve beasts) and nice tone (for the weight/price) i've always liked hybrid amps- laney tube fusion or marshall valvestate might be worth looking at?

You will need a mic, like a Sure SM57, a mic stand, and a mixer with a mic input. Run the output of the mixer into your PC for recording.

Re: Two Questions...

thanks, for the recording gear tips. I knew I'd have to get a mixer and mic. I've done some tracks at my uncle's house and he has a nice condenser mic and runs it through a beringher euro... mixer into his PC. Could you point out a cheap mixer that has phantom power for a mic and decent features.

As for a small amp I've been looking at stuff like Vox valvetronix, traynor tube stuff, Fender junior type stuff, Marshall AVT, etc. I wouldn't mind a hybrid/non-tube amp, but they have to sound good! I've heard on of the bigger traynors (80watter) in action and I liked it better than my deville (distortion especially). I'm really interested in these Vox amps though, anyone have input.

Re: Two Questions...

well a blues junior is a lot like the hotrods

i'd say if your deville is unmodded, you'll have the best luck with that

but i'd record with the deville

Re: Two Questions...

Yeah I just want a little amp to take to practices, auditions etc.
I'm gonna try out for this summer tour gig and I can come out of the summer with around 2k dollars. Last year I was runner-up and the main guitarist this time isn't there anymore so.......

Also It's much more convienent to be able to have an amp that you can actually pickup and move more than 50ft without taking a little rest and getting sore.

Hmm ... actually, I would look into getting something like an ART Tube MP mic pre ... You can get one on sale at Musicians Friend for about $50-60, I think. It has an XLR input, phantom power, and XLR as well as 1/4" outputs. If you're only going to use the one mic, you can run the mic pre right into your PC as well. The ART has input and output levels, and has a single 12AX7 in there ... works GREAT on guitar tracks!! :D
