Tyson Tone Lab P90 wait list... How long?

I ordered a set of '57 era P90 pickups from Tyson Tone Lab a little over 2 months ago. I received an email from Tyson 5 weeks ago, stating they would be completed in 1 week. Still no pickups, nor have I heard anything from them since. I'm hoping someone here has placed an order with Tyson in the past. If yes, how long did you have to wait for your pickups?

I have had a very fast experience with him, and 1 more recent very slow one.

You just need to keep badgering him. He's a newer winder who has been getting exponentially more positive tone reports.......it could be that he's just got more work than he can handle. Some of the small guys do it as a second job too.....so once work/family commitments are done.

I would stay on it. About 7-9 months ago, my order was sent out promptly in about a week or so. I had an order placed in Nov. and received a tracking number in Feb. The set didn't ship or move for a month. I filed for a refund on PayPal and received that promptly. He's pretty swamped with orders I guess.

I"m not in a hurry, but I don't want to get lost in the mix either.

This order is for my 00' Gibson LP Deluxe with mini HB pups. Since raising the stock bridge pup, I'm thinking about leaving the mini hums in it. I don't like changing pickups unless it's necessary, but I also want a P90 loaded instrument. The "metal" guys have discovered 90's (dammit!), so prices are increasing on used P90 loaded guitars. Hey, metal guys, P90's suck! Stick with humbuckers. :)

^Haha. Hey, P90’s are awesome! I actually owned a few Tyson Tone P90’s back when he first started out. Glad to see his business is growing but, I, sorry for the issues that you’re going through. They’ll be worth the wait, I assure you!

Yeah, definitely don't get lost in the mix. I think that was my issue. With the holidays around the corner, I didn't push the issue. Bobby is a cool dude, I would still place an order in the future.

Very good. Your experience sounds like mine. A long wait after an earlier promise - followed by tracking data seemingly only hours after being reminded.

How do you like the Tyson pickups?

They're on par with all the other boutiques I have......in that each winder brings their own unique tonal footprint, but in each case they explore areas that generic pickups just can't do. I have 3 humbucker sets from him and a dogear p90 in a Jr. The p90 compares well to the real vintage p90's I have bought, although a bit brighter overall.

Thanks! I hope they aren't (((too))) bright. The guitar is a '00 LP Deluxe (GT) that's supposedly based on the '69 Deluxe. If it has a thinner maple top than the 70's Deluxe, they should work perfectly.

Mine were wound/made using some vintage A5 mags that I'd bought earlier. So he took those and charged the mags + designed the wind around the whole working together. Its a Jr, so I'm thinking of doing the vintage correct 250k/300k volume pot swap. It will just drop the treble/upper mids back.
I've done that with a couple of guitars that just seem a bit strident. Its a small effect, but works throughout the frequency range unlike just rolling back the tone knob - which tends to muffle highs before you get any other lower frequencies dropped back.

Received and installed. I didn't know Charlie Starr plays Tyson P90's until last month, but I totally get it. That classic P90 growl is what I was looking for, and these deliver in spades! Picking nuance is audible throughout the entire range and clarity is spectacular. The harder you pick, the nastier they get. Backing-off on the volume pot is highly effective, especially through my Ampeg GVT15. Tyson is swamped with orders, which is what held-up delivery. Build quality is top-notch! Comes with a set of screws for each pickup. Mine are 57-Wraptail 50's Wind Vintage Spec. i.e. No noise cancellation in center position.
