UGD -Epi G-400 Custom

Re: UGD -Epi G-400 Custom

I do like the Tangerine! Be a while I have a few projects to complete first so I'm sure I'll change my mind a few hundred times.

I put in a JB bridge and a 59 in the middle, haven't had a chance to do anything with it though. Busy with the NY Guitar Expo

In my experience SG's love the 59 pickup. And a C5 bridge would be pretty killer too.

+1. That was the most popular SG recommendation here for years, until the C8 - '59N took over. The C5 - '59N is still pretty good though, or a pair of '59's.

Well it now has my PoorMan wound pups in the mid and neck positions (similar to '59's) with aged nickel covers and a JB in the bridge. The PoorMan's sound fine but I still don't like JB's.

Well once again Epi pups had me fooled. The lower volume sounds were really good but open it up and it's a big old ball of pooh, hehe. Oh well.

I'm curious has anyone tried the new Epi pickups? I know they make a big deal about how authentic they sound but I haven't come across any yet.

Epi has come a LONG way with quality improvement in recent years in both the guitars and the pickups. I havent tried some of the newest pups over last coupla years that are supposed to be really good, but I know on a couple of the 2007-2009 models I had, I kept the stock necks as they were pretty darn good

Pulled the JB and put in a C5, much more to my liking. The PoorMan pups are much warmer but I'll get a good balance out of them as I use the guitar. I changed the bridge volume pot and got rid of the treble bleed or whatever the small cap was on there for, it sucked the life out the JB and the C5 til I got rid of it.
