Ultimate Iceman Thread

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

Nice! That Bigsby bridge-only one looks like you need some serious platform shoes to go with it. That must be a lot of fun to play. Great pair of guitars!

I tend toward humbuckers myself, but variety is the spice of life. I was playing just yesterday and deciding that one of my guitars sounds really good in split coil mode, and realized just how few of my guitars are single coil.

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

I miss my old 79 IC200. Playing one standing with my eyes closed, it feels like a flattop LP.

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

I need to finish both of mine up, but I've been too busy doing other things. I need a couple of necks and a few other little doodads that I've been buying here and there.

^^ Rare birds. Don't think they made many of them.

As for the Bigsby'd sparkly one - Rev. Billy G., eat your heart out.

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

And now, I can finally "un-Iceman" this thread with an actual picture of the NFG:

I took this with my "good" digital camera, but it doesn't show the wood grain at all. (Believe it or not, that's a beautiful translucent finish!) That'll teach me not to just use my crappy cell phone camera.

This thing is a lot of fun to play, but I need to set it up. The action is not where it should be. It's also missing both bridge locking nuts, but this doesn't seem to impact playability. I'm not 100% pleased with the string geometry at the nut/headstock, but overall it's a cool design. The set neck is beefier than your everyday Wizard and has a rounder profile. The frets are also a bit more prominent.

The Fireman is brilliant in how it veers off course from your typical Ibanez. It fills a hole in my soul that I only noticed was there yesterday.

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

Man I miss my old Iceman. I had an '80 IC-50 in blue that I had Bill Lawrence L500's in. Bought it new, it was a great guitar, one of the few I miss. I bought an MIJ 500 that was gorgeous but wasn't the same. My old one felt kind of like an LP Special fwiw.

Good luck with the Fireman they're pretty cool.

Jolly get cracking MF'er!!!!

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

Local store got a 70's Ibanez Iceman Steve Miller signature. Looks really awesome. And it's expensive as heck. :P
Assuming it's pretty rare.

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

I like that Ibanez has brought back a classic Destroyer, would be cool if they did some classy Iceman now too.
luv to see um bring back some of the other original looks too; Talmans, Blazers, etc... instead of just 5000 flavors of RG, it would almost make me consider buying a new guitar :scratchch

Great Sounds:

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

That Fireman is a BEAUTY! Ya JOLLY you need to get a move on with those bodies. I have NO room to talk though, since it has been ages since I've dun anything on my build. ARG

Re: Ultimate Iceman Thread

Never was big on the Iceman shape but saw this local band that had one (good guitar player too) and I thought it was pretty cool.

Bigsby, Invader, and a Phat Cat
