ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

Diminished Triad

What is, in your opinion/preference, the best hard tail bridge you've played or heard for/on a strat? My experience is the 2Tek model has worked best for me but interested if anyone believes there is a better hard tail out there?

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

This is another in a long line of 'what is the best x product'. I'd thought you had long since learned that there is no 'best', as we all have different ears, different guitars, amps, desired tones, aesthetic needs.

Oh well:dunno:

+1 for the Saddle Lock bridge. But I also have a fondness for the tried and true Gibson Tune-O-Matic and stop tail.

Schaller 4d6 is my weapon of choice. Only because the hannes is too expensive.

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

Yes, the G&L hard tail bridge is excellent. They don't feel like Strat bridges, though. They have their own unique feel. If you go with one, I'd find one used, though, as they are very reasonably priced that way.

Callaham makes a nice one, and Marc Rutters makes several models that you might like. (Even though they are made with Teles in mind, they would work on Strats no problem.) Most quality hardware companies make a hardtail Strat model, and you can't really go wrong with any of them.

And don't forget that you don't necessarily need to buy a purpose-made hard tail bridge. You can always take any Strat bridge and make it a hard tail with the simple drilling of a few countersunk screw holes. Very easy to do yourself, or very cheap to have a machine shop do it for you.

Any Babicz is by far my favorite bridge , just better for adjustments and setting intonation , thinking about the hardtail for my next Strat build. You can't go wrong but then again , everything i do is wrong.

Asking for opinions and preferences....some good ones coming in too! Very open to others' ideas and recommendations. Hopefully most people recommend what they believe to be best/better...even if there isn't an "official, undisputed best, unanimous winner" in the end. Not agreeing on what is best doesn't mean there shouldn't be a discussion.....especially when it comes to making music and musical instruments......and especially in a venue like a Seymour Duncan blog. Just like the Grammy Awards, Gold Records, and other fun choices in life - everyone has an opinion.......and often time others' opinions count......especially among the open minded.
Thanks....

Nothing wrong with this post/question. This is how we learn about others' experiences with products...good and bad. It helps us to learn. May also introduce us to products we've never heard of before. Like reading product reviews online. Do you have a problem with those too?

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

Expensive and non-reversible installation.

The *best* hardtail bridge is going to be the one that's the most comfortable to play. The end.

You do everything with an eye towards "can i undo this in the future?" Judging from your rattle can jobs I'm going to guess no... So i dont see non reversible as a downside... not especially for what it offers.

a bridge can be comfortable and suck

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

I like the Gotoh 5-screw mount hardtail; GTC-101 and GTC-102.

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

A lot of hard tail bridges for strats have very wide string spacing. This is something to watch out for if you don't want your E strings very close to the edge of the frets up high on the neck. I'm going to replace a wide one with the Fender USA model on one guitar that is about 3mm narrower string spacing for this reason.

Re: ULTIMATE PREFERRED HARD TAIL BRIDGE?

I used the Hipshot on a couple project strats and really liked it. Very solid bridge.
