Under-rated Guitars

I have a Gibson ES-125 (1961). It's a shallow archtop with a P-90 in the neck position. It plays great and sounds great. Through a clean channel it sounds like a mic'ed acoustic. But everyone talks about ES-175s and ES-335s and L5s, etc. Given the clout of the Gibson name it's hard to believe I can say this about any of their guitars, but I think this guitar is entirely under-rated.

What about you, do you have a highly under-rated guitar?

Re: Under-rated Guitars

My MIM 72 tele custom ri. Far better build quality than the originals. I chose this tele over every other tele I tried in every price range outside of custom shop and vintage.

Re: Under-rated Guitars

a lot of MIM fender stuff... a buddy of mine has a MIM strat that i really like playing. and squiers too. with a little help from some Seymour Duncan pups, a squier can be a perfectly good guitar or bass.

Re: Under-rated Guitars

I don't have it just yet, but most Deans are very underrated. All of the Hardtails, Cadillacs, and EVO models I've played have been great and for very little money compared to what you're getting. Even the imports like the Hardtail Standard, Hardtail Select, and EVO models are great guitars for a good price.

Schecter's stuff is pretty underrated IMHO.

+1, Schecters make some good instruments for a new too shabby price... especially their blackjack series which comes stock with USA Duncans. Very cool.

+1... especially to the squier part. I bought a cheap squire strat for 20 bucks that was in really bad shape and I'm almost done turning into a 60's strat replica. Completely redid the whole thing, and so far it's turning out great.

+1 to both as well. Schecter has some great stuff for good prices. I finally got around to trying some of the new stuff like the C-1 (one with vine fretboard inlay) and the made for GC model that goes for around 3 bills...Omen? Nice intruments.

Also some of the MIM Fenders are excellent (and some are crap), and same with Squier. A good friends daughter got a Fender "Starcaster" i think is the name, last year fro XMS. "Made in indonesia" . H-S-S strat copy. Has a pointy headstock. Instrument plays quite well considering the cost. With a really good setup job, and some new pups, it would be a heck of a deal. Neck is great. very fast.

And I still prefer the dark blue color that the squiers come in vs. the chrome blue of my MIA strat ;) Wish I coulda got that color..though I do like what I have :D

peavey wolfgangs

those things are a dream to play

also the gretsch electromatics. Look at the double jet, set neck, chambered mahogany, maple top, that thing could so easily become the equivalent of a *cough*lp supreme*cough

and they go for about $400

Re: Under-rated Guitars

Carvin, It's probably the most underrated guitar on the market! Ever hear a bad revue for a carvin guitar or bass?

Here's 3 more awesome guitars, that I think are the best $ value.
You can get a guitar custom made to your spec., for around the same price as some other guitars that are mass produced.

What would you rather have for $2500.?
The same Les Paul 1500 other guys have or,....a custom, 1 of a kind, Quicksilver or, Pearlcaster... Valley Arts are a little more expensive but still an excellent value.

BTW check out Dava picks & star picks..........the Dava picks are really cool.

Re: Under-rated Guitars

Definitely Carvin and Hamer are my two most underrated guitars. I have one of each. :)

Re: Under-rated Guitars

Probably the Wing Series of Washburn Guitars back in the late 70's early 80's. I own a Falcon from '81 that is one of the most solid instruments I've ever played. It's got a great internal resonance that lets the guitar play itself.

Re: Under-rated Guitars

Some of the 70's Ibanez are great instruments that can be had for cheap.
