Re: underappreciated guitars
In my opinion, the Wing series that Washburn made back in the late 70s and early 80s were some of the best instruments made at the time. There are a lot of people that used them: John Goodsall with Brand X, John Fogerty, Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA, I'm sure there were others, but I'm drawing a blank on any more. The really well made models were a walnut/maple laminate with a "fake" coil splitting feature. My Falcon has at least 15 laminations in it and is every bit as heavy as my '76 Les Paul, maybe more so.
Also noteworthy are the late 70s Dean Standard series, the Yamaha SG/SBG series, the late 70s Ibanez models and almost any Guild.
