My Guild S-100 it's an amazing gutar for the price... It's a shame now they are discontinued.
Mine it's like this one but with covered humbuckers.

There are several old peaveys around here for $100 or so. Great guitars. No one seems to know how good they are.

im not a fan of mustangs, they feel like toys to me :laugh2:... the one my mate has has very microphonic pups as well.. ill seymourise it one day hehe
ok, another underappreciated guitar - washburns. they make some lovely guitars and basses, and they never get a decent look in..

The Epiphone Genesis was a mahogany set-net, MIJ, with splitable hums. Great dark tone, still agailable for under $300 (under $200 if you hustle).
The Gibson Blueshawk is a MIA small-bodied semi-hollow w/ a variant of the P90 and still available used for under $500. It's mad of poplar (unusal) and doesn't have Gibson's normal sterling finish job, but it's not half bad.
Ditto the posts on older Peavey axes. Not primo guitars, but nice, esp for the money.

I don't actually own one but the guitars my school is kitted out with are all squire standards. I think they're really good. The hardware is a bit shoddy and pickups could do with an upgrade but they still blow everything in their price bracket away.

I think the reason I really like the squire standards is because they just seem to have got cheap guitars so right. Like I said before, all the hardware is a bit crappy, but the body and neck is really good. So you can buy one when you're starting then, when you progress a little and it's time for an upgrade, you don't need to buy a new guitar. Just replace some hardware. I honestly believe that if you're after a $600 type fender guitar the best thing you could do would be to buy a squire and spend the rest on upgrades.

how about rickenbackers...i've only seen one in the flesh, and they're like nothing in the pictures. they are so well built it isn't even funny, and guy from fugazi got a killer sound out of em'. very identifiable guitars, well made, unique looks...i just have yet to really play one.

In my opinion, the Wing series that Washburn made back in the late 70s and early 80s were some of the best instruments made at the time. There are a lot of people that used them: John Goodsall with Brand X, John Fogerty, Björn Ulvaeus from ABBA, I'm sure there were others, but I'm drawing a blank on any more. The really well made models were a walnut/maple laminate with a "fake" coil splitting feature. My Falcon has at least 15 laminations in it and is every bit as heavy as my '76 Les Paul, maybe more so.
Also noteworthy are the late 70s Dean Standard series, the Yamaha SG/SBG series, the late 70s Ibanez models and almost any Guild.

Godin Solidac's are the best kept seceret! The necks and bodies are made right here in Canada and put together in the States. They have great tone woods-Mostly maple (with some popular sides) bodies with fancy maple caps, mahogany necks, amazing finnishes, great sounding but dead quiet pickups, Locking Tuners, Piezo Tremelo bridge, and like all other Godins comes with either a Gig Bag Or Case at no extra cost! Here around Toronto they sell for about $870 Canadian and anything the other companies in that price range offer does not come close. It's kind of amazing a guitar like that with all the features could still be North American made for that price! Love the fact the Gig Bag is included! It's a great thick bag and protects pretty good!

Lots of MIJ Fenders. They're usually overlooked by most guitarists for MIM or MIA. I think they've got to be some of the best guitars on the market, considering I've owned 4 and currently own 1 that I wont let get away from me again. Alot of the MIK's are great too.

Gibson MIII. Superb Les Paul type sounds and Strat in between tones in 1 cool guitar. I should never have sold mine. Then again, I wouldn't have ended up with my Legacy.

Absolutely agree. They are not less than Gibson slayers. I like the newer issues as well. A decade ago I had an early-'90s model with DiMarzio Distortion bridge p-up that was a tonal orgasm. I had to sell it for financial school support :yell: :yell: :yell:
IMO most Yamaha axes are under-appreciated, with the SG series in the front. I will buy an APX or CPX acoustic or an N500.
