underwound pearly gates issue

i have been using pearly gates pickups for a while now and have them in all my les pauls, recently i bought a new les paul and grabbed another set of pearly gates to put in . after installing them i noticed they sounded weaker , the tone was there but the output was lower than my other guitars with the same pickups . i double checked the heights and measured the resistance , on the bridge im getting 7.5k and then neck is about 6.7k . they sound good but just not as strong as my other pearly loaded les pauls . not sure what to do as im in canada and dont have the 21 day exchange. i know there are slight variances with pickups but i think its significant when using lower output pickups. all my other pearlys measure well over 8k and 7.4k . anyone else have this problem

Make sure you measure without them being attached to any circuitry.....and maybe for reference at the same time measure your other pickups (also unsoldered). That way you will get readings of the 'good' PG's at the same temperature for reference.

It is not impossible for an underwound one to sneak out here and there.....but to get 2 where they are both the same way is getting to be LONG odds indeed. Even paired sets are just 2 pickups picked randomly from the finished pickup box.

I'm wondering if you are bleeding output from wiring somehow?

Or - if the pickups are not actually new (as in dealer rebooted something...)

i did remove both pickups to measure them out of the guitar and those are the readings i have posted , the pickups were brand new unopened from the largest chain store here in canada. It is odd that they are both under wound.

those are pretty damn low, id bring em back and get a different set

I'd just become a household name in music and re-release them as a Custom Shop signature set. But that's just me.

Perhaps a plot to boost sales of the Duncan Pickup Booster?????


yeah - take them back - let retailer deal with it.

My suspicion is there are people who would use/enjoy/request an under-wound PG.
