Unexpected NGD - RG550 Desert Sun Yellow

What's the genesis neck profile?

It was the wizardy neck profile that put me off anything RGRG...in fact it put me off anything Ibáñez for quite a while.

Not sure of the exact spec of the Genesis neck. But if you didn't like any of the other Wizard necks you probably wouldn't like it. For thicker more rounder necks the Gio series has it and the AZ series also.

Genesis neck spec is 17mm at 1st fret, 19mm at 12th, so on par with the old ones.

Kinda remarkable that they were able to pull it off with initial ones as they still had flatsawn necks.

hell yeah man $500 is a smokin deal for that! i have no idea what pups they are putting in these days but i loved my old 550

Still feels like I am dreaming and I don't have this guitar. Reality hasn't sunk in yet... Plays so nice and has some of the lowest action of all my guitars with no buzz. Flawless playability. The pickups are V7 S1 V8.

Yes. I want the VK.

Indeed, it's hawt.

I had a 1990 early s540 with Bensalem neckplate. It was quartersawn wizard. It was also one of the most finnicky necks I've ever owned; sold it because the truss was always needing adjustment.

Im not sure quartersawn equals neck stability.

^^ I think they changed them to qs around 1989 (?) in order to address the issue, which may have worked a bit, but then they changed them again to multi-piece in the 90s.

The old RGs are $$ now, but so many of them have repaired necks at the nut and possibly flexorama...I don't know, some surely have the mojo but would rather get a new one with the 5pc neck.
