I plan on going to A Sharp Music, a Guitar Center [or two if there is more then one alone the way], and possibly another shop. The four main amps I am looking at are
Rivera K-tre
Mesa Roadster
Peavey 6505+
Kustom Double Cross
And a Randall RM100 if I can find a place with one, but I dont plan on going out of my way to find one.
As for the Tubescreamer, I meant after I decided what amp I wanted. Especially with the Mesa and K tre which I hear are kinda bassy [which I predict that the Tubescreamer will help tighten up the bass a bit].
I'm telling you, check out the Budda Superdrive 45 while you are there!
If you have the funds, see if you can test a Fuchs Viper !

Has anyone viewing this thread ever tried a Custom Audio Amplification (John Suhr) OD-100?
the reverb isn't so much as a problem but a choice by Mesa to choose one evil over the other.. the reverb takes just under a second to start sounding when switching from one channel to another.. this is an inconvenience.. but I guess I'd rather have that then a huge reverb spillover when going from one channel to another
Yes.
Celestions ARE indeed made in China now... how that's affected things I dunno. All the speakers I have range from 10-15 years ago and were made in England.
Lots of great stuff out there... the Randall George Lynch half-stack was pretty bad-ass. Didn't care too much for the standard Randall modular head... but I'd really like to try the Lynch speakers on their own at some point...
surprised no one mentioned boogie triple rec. that'd be my high gain amp of choice if I needed a stage tube amp for metal. built well, loud, tons of gain, sounds great.
Yeah, it's pretty tried and tested, I've see all sorts of bands make them sound good.

You can get a Soldano for around the price you're looking at. I've got this head, it's got great tone, but it's extremely basic for the price. Another downside is the FX loop is made for rack effects only unless you mod it.
EDIT: Btw You should check out a Mesa Boogie Mark V.
