Unique Boutique amp

I'd seen a neat build on the Hoffman Amps forum that used two 12AX7's and two 6BM8 pentode/triode tubes called a Mini-Bassman. Killing time in Harrisonburg, VA between business meetings, I stopped in the Guitar and Amp Shop. A bit of B.S. with the sales guy and he's proudly showing me this custom amp their resident guru had built - same damn amp!

Here's a sound clip: http://www.musicwebtown.com/jallenshaw/46763

Here are some pics of the little beastie: http://www.el34world.com/Forum/yabb2/nph-YaBB.pl?num=1176063544 You can see why I recognized it right away - separate transformer for the heaters and the choke at an angle, plus those weird pentode/triode tubes. He uses the triode half of each for the phase inverter and the pentode half as power tubes. Cool, huh?

Thought this was worth sharing...

VERY cool Chip. Did you take it home?

Also what kind of coin were they asking, or did you find out?

Re: Unique Boutique amp

What I saw was only the naked prototype chassis w/o a cab, not that beauty in the pics. Did not get a chance to play it myself. He's built several for a local recording studio, but I don't know what the price is.

Re: Unique Boutique amp

Shameless bump to get some other opinions on the soundclip...

Seriously, what do you all think of the tone for a 7-9 watt amp?

Re: Unique Boutique amp

The player/engineer who recorded it says:

"Thanks for your questions about the sound clip. Here's the setup for
each section of the arrangement:

Rhythm is Strat Neck w/ Matchless Phoenix

All solos & melodies are 6BM8 in the following order:
Short opening chord figure: Strat bridge
Verse 1: Strat neck
Verse 2: Tele P-90 bridge
Bridge: Strat neck
Verse 3: Strat bridge
Outro line: Strat neck

No EQ, compression, or processing is applied to the melody or solo tracks.
No floor pedals were used. No changes in amp control settings were made
between different pickups and guitars. "
