I'd seen a neat build on the Hoffman Amps forum that used two 12AX7's and two 6BM8 pentode/triode tubes called a Mini-Bassman. Killing time in Harrisonburg, VA between business meetings, I stopped in the Guitar and Amp Shop. A bit of B.S. with the sales guy and he's proudly showing me this custom amp their resident guru had built - same damn amp!

Here are some pics of the little beastie: http://www.el34world.com/Forum/yabb2/nph-YaBB.pl?num=1176063544 You can see why I recognized it right away - separate transformer for the heaters and the choke at an angle, plus those weird pentode/triode tubes. He uses the triode half of each for the phase inverter and the pentode half as power tubes. Cool, huh?
Thought this was worth sharing...
