Re: Univibe pedal

I guess...I have yet to be impressed with any of the Strymon stuff but besides that the Lex isn't a vibe pedal.

I'd have to agree with this. The Strymon stuff all seems to be very cleverly made and scores high points on functionality, but everything I've heard of their's sounds somewhat clinical to me. It's an odd thing, because it's clear they are attempting to emulate analog 'warmth' for want of a better word, but I'm really not convinced they've done it. The other guitar player I regularly work with (who is actually in the band as a backing vocalist who adds some guitar parts) has an El Cap and a Lex. Both leave me cold.

And of course TGWIF is correct, a Leslie simulator is not a Univibe. I wouldn't even consider them interchangeable. The Univibe was a failed attempting at getting a Leslie like effect that ended up creating its own new category, thanks to the likes of Jimi, Gilmour and Trower.

My own choice of Univibe is the KR Megavibe, sadly unobtainium now due to a complete business and ethics failure. I was fortunate to get one in happier times.

Here it is, coupled with a fuzz/overdrive hybrid from the same maker, in my demo of one of the Univibe ubiquitous flagship tunes, Trower's 'Bridge of Sighs.'

Great post Geoff, thanks!

Re: Univibe pedal

I see your point but to me saying you use a Leslie sim for a Univibe sound is like saying I use S-335 for a Telecaster sound...it's just that different to me.

I see your point also. Could you play Good Times Bad Times on a ES 335 and make it sound good? Of course you could. Would it sound like Jimmy Page's LZ1 Telecaster sound no, could you make it sound good, without a doubt. Jimmy played Good Times Bad Times most of his career on a Les Paul. We use what we have available.
