Unknown Les Paul Junior DC Copy

Just got it this past Sunday for cheap. Les Paul Junior copy (double-cut away) with one P-90 pickup. It has replaced Grover tuners and a Badass wrap-around bridge. The body is Mahogany and the neck is 3-piece maple with a Rosewood fretboard. There's no logo on the lawsuit era headstock, but the previous owner was pretty sure it was an early to mid seventies Ibanez..Can anyone confirm?

Took some pics today, I apologize for the bad lighting:

Re: Unknown Les Paul Junior DC Copy

Probably some sort of 70's Japanese copy...

Ibanez? Could be... but I've never seen one "that" close before...

Re: Unknown Les Paul Junior DC Copy

I love it. Always liked those but I'd always be afraid of the neck...

Re: Unknown Les Paul Junior DC Copy

Could be a Univox as well. They had a very close DC JR. copy for awhile.

That was my very first thought!

I was in a band with a guy once that had 2 or 3 of those Univox Jr's and they were pretty close looking and in all honesty they were great little guitars!

Re: Unknown Les Paul Junior DC Copy

that bridge would make me nervous i think.

Reasons why? Bridge seems fine to me..

I posted this in another forum and they also mentioned the possibility of it being a Univox or Hamer..One person thought that the serial number was consistant of Ibanez ser. numbers from the seventies..She plays, looks and sounds great..The construction is also very good..This is no cheap knock-off..

Re: Unknown Les Paul Junior DC Copy

Not a Hamer. Wrong headstock shape for any issue they have done. Does that serial number start with a number or letter? It is to dark to read on my screen. Letter start would make me think Ibanez/Cortez/Greco/ Burny even. Has the headstock been repaired or looks refinished? Could be Tokai. The grain of that Mahogany does remind me of Asian Mahogany guitars.

Serial number 001187. The headstock is original, no repairs as far as I can tell and the finish is constant all throughout the neck.

Re: Unknown Les Paul Junior DC Copy

Most importantly, how does it sound?

It looks killer - love the dogear P90 and wraparound bridge and the straight grain of the mahogany. Only thing I don't like is it looks like whatever bridge was on it originally was a little off (you can see one of the base screws not slide all the way down on the other end of the bridge for locking it down. Nevertheless, looks like it's a great guitar, nice score!
