Unknown Pickup

I recently bought a seymour duncan off ebay, but the buyer didn't know what model it was.

It is definitely an SD, as it has the engraved logo on the back. The other thing that is on the back is a sticker that says 'DCJ'.

Any ideas to what it is?

Re: Unknown Pickup

The first two letters indicate the model and the last one the persons how made the windings.

So I guess it is a Duncan Custom...

1) welcome to the forum
2) is that all you can see, isn't there a number or somerthing else?

Re: Unknown Pickup

I agree with mongrollo, the first two letters indicate the model (in this case DC=Duncan Custom), the last letter indicates the maker of that pup, (in this case i believe the J=Mary Jane).
In my opinion it's the Duncan Custom made/wound by MJ.

I mean, that's for sure!!! I am not sure about the exact meanings of each code. I know there was a web page in the SD domain with the correspondences but i can't find it.

Re: Unknown Pickup

So is it a Duncan Custom he?

I don't want to be rude , but I think it is kind of funny that someone buys an pickup off ebay and doesn't know what type it is. :laugh2:

But maybe there are logical explanations for...tvrf18?

Re: Unknown Pickup

the reason i bought it was because it was only £20, i thought it was a bargain being an sd and all.

But it doesn't sound like a duncan custom, which is wierd, if anything its a little less powerful and has quite high treble and it mushes if i put too much middle. This is in comparison to the duncan custom i already have (brand new).

Plus the duncan custom i have sounds better tapped.

But it does sound pretty awesome in the neck position of my guitar!
