Bah, I had hoped you would see the duality in that question. Oh well :D

Now, another drink/smack/procreate question:

M'Pete
Hot Tub
Roar

:D

Re: Unleash the fury - The Well Part Whatever (XXXIV)

Of course ;) Why else would I want to be here? ;)

Re: Unleash the fury - The Well Part Whatever (XXXIV)

Do you have any interest in music that specifically showcases the electric guitar?

Trick question or??? Sorry, over-tired here.... Dont get much, just running on lots coffee ;)

Well, I really like some of Yngwie Malmsteens stuff, but the real great stuff, is the old Larry Carlton, Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson and Tony MacAlpine records. There is some amazing playing on some of that :)

Re: Unleash the fury - The Well Part Whatever (XXXIV)

How about electric guitar-based music specifically from the 1980s that features players with long, curly or frizzy hair? Any interest in that at all?

Not at all... I have recently decided to start a emo band, that genre has yet to be popular here, so maybe I will be a pioneer!

Finally, an answer that makes sense! ;)

OK, question in all honesty here (assuming you like Iron Maiden):

I realized for the first time yesterday that Iron Maiden had a different singer for the first two albums: Paul DiAnno. He was replaced by Bruce Dickinson in '81 or '82. How do you like DiAnno as compared to Dickinson?

LOL yeah sorry... Like I said... coffeee gaah ;)

I like Iron Maiden alot yeah. :)

Well, DiAnno had a great style for the first 2 albums, and on some of the later Maiden stuff, I could certainly imagine that more raw bluesy style on it, rather than Dickinsons high pitch style, I do take alot of inspiration as a singer from Dickinson, and he is certainly one of my favorites :) Both have great styles, and I could not imagine the first record with Dickinson or NOTB with DiAnno. :)

Right on. Seems like most guys into the 80s metal scene dig that operatic vocal style. I'm into the, as you put it, "raw bluesy style." I couldn't ever get into Iron Maiden (with the exception of a few songs) because of that operatic vocal style, but when I heard DiAnno, I felt differently about their music.

Where would you rank Iron Maiden among all the 80s metal acts?

I agree, these days I am trying to get my voice back in shape, messed it up badly in the start of the year, but more of a Coverdale/DiAnno singing style.

Iron Maiden was a very strong band, their stuff from 1980-1992 was very strong, and I like it alot, but to be honest.. I rank Judas Priest, Whitesnake and such higher. I still like Maiden alot and they are one of my favorite bands, but compared to their peers in Judas Priest, Priest just had stronger albums for my taste :)

I like Halford's singing better, too.

Is there one change you think Iron Maiden could have made that would have placed them at the top of the heap, among the bands you mentioned (i.e., Judas Priest, Whitesnake)?

Well, I tend to like straight forward hard-driving songs. I.E. You Got Another Thing Commin', Rock Hard Ride Free, Still Of The Night, Here I Go Again etc etc.

Maiden had alot of that on the two first ones, NOTB, Piece Of Mind, Powerslave and Somewhere In Time. Those are also the only Maiden records I often listen to, as that whole keychange thing over a 13minute song aint really my thing.

Plus, some records just hit right home. I still listen to Whitesnakes 1987 album almost daily, and have done for 2 years. Not that the songs are better than Defenders Of The Faith for instance, it is just a record, where there is a certain magic about it, that has captured me unlike any other record, besides Dio's Holy Diver. :)

That's my preference as well. "You Got Another Thing Comin'" is probably my favorite JP song. As for "Here I Go Again," it's too cheesy and major-key for me.

Dio is another one of those operatic metal singers I just can't listen to. Gillan sometimes got that way with Deep Purple, but Dio's always like that, and while it's something a lot of people get into, for whatever reason I cannot. I like the singing style that's more Ozzy -- no long, held-out notes with wide vibrato.

What guitar do you play most often, and what inspired you to get it?

Hehe yeah Here I Go Again can be a bit cheesy, but I like cheese. ;)

Ozzy is a great singer really. Not a whole lot of range or vibrato, but he is one of the most identifiable singers in rock/metal. :)

I play my black Les Paul most. The inspiration for me to get it, was seeing a Concert-DVD with Thin Lizzy, 1983 live with John Sykes. That black Les Paul Custom of his, was just a enigma to me. How he got the sounds etc, so I decided to find a good Les Paul for myself. Unfortunately, I had the choice between a Custom, or getting a Standard and the Kramer Nightswan I have, I decided the latter and havent regretted it though. I just find a Les Paul to be a inspiring guitar. It is not the most comfortable guitar, it can be heavy (mine isnt) and it is hard to play up high on the neck, but the benefits of the feel, sound and playability of a Les Paul is just great. I still play my Heartfield Talon and Nightswan a helluvalot though, but that LP is special :)

I do have another one comming soon, a mate of mine bought himself a '58 and put aside his Cherry burst 1968 LP for me. Cant wait to have enough cash saved for that one :)

I have a black '94 LP Standarad as well, and I love it. Swapped the stocks with a '59 (neck) and JB (bridge). I always loved the look of that guitar, and the weight doesn't bother me, but when I got my hands on an SG Classic, I fell in love -- something about the string tension, odd as that may sound, fits me perfectly.

Have you swapped out the pups on your LP?

Cool, sounds like a killer Les Paul :) Black LPs are classics. Same with SGs, I really want a SG someday :)

Yeah I swapped mine for a DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck and Super Distortion in the bridge :)

I'd like to get another LP just so I can load it with Super Ds. Are your pups cream or black?
