unoreinted ceramic 8

Re: unoreinted ceramic 8

I saw this the other day and was VERY intrigued. Also saw they have A6 and A9 now (but no size given for the A9)

Would love to know what they all sound like...

Size is most probably the 2.5 x .125 x .5 standard.

The UnOriented Ceramic 8 certainly IS intriguing. How would it sound in a Custom or '59/Custom Hybrid? Would it be a brighter version of an A8?

A6 and A9 don't really interest me... not for my target market anyway.

Well... now that I think of it, having some of those won't break the bank, so why not?

When my stock goes down, I'll be asking Hannah for a quote.

So europeans, PM me to let me know if you're interested! ;)

So all it takes to get people excited about a ceramic magnet is to put an 8 in the name and un-orient it? Good to know.

No. Ceramic 8 is just a regular ceramic. The unoriented thing is interesting, being that unoriented mags have a lot of qualities that are polar opposites to typical ceramic qualities. It's interesting because it's really hard to guess what it will sound like. There could be some really great tones in there.

Re: unoreinted ceramic 8

I'm wandering if it will be like a warmer ceramic. Might be a good options for guys that wanted to love a8 but it never quite worked out. I am gonna order some friday

if it follows the rules for alnico mags, then unoriented ceramic should be:

-lower output than standard ceramic
-a bit more rounded high end
-slightly more mids/softer lows

Which could make it absolutely wonderful for getting higher output from an Alnico mag pickup, while still retaining a vintage vibe.

Of course this is all just speculation seeing as i've never tried an unoriented ceramic.

Re: unoreinted ceramic 8

It might even make me want to try a ceramic mag again.

If it does follow the same pattern as the effects in alnicos, it may be a reasonable choice for a DD or a Custom to get rid of the shrill brittle highs.

Re: unoreinted ceramic 8

If you want a warmer lower output ceramic you can get ceramic 5 instead of ceramic 8 magnets ,If you can find them ,I think I would just try Degaussing a ceramic 8 a little

I had this notion, but I wasn't sure. I put a DD magnet (C8) in my Ironman and liked it, but it was just too much. Louder and harder than any neck pickup I have short of a Blackout, maybe. When I put the stock small C8 back in I was missing the power and the glory of the big magnet, so I tried the big C5 from a 500T and that was my Goldylocks moment. I chalked it up to the keeper bar I had to put in with the DD mag, but what you said was my result.

I know this, Ironman + 500T center mag + SG = great big titties.
