I've heard a ton of good things here about the UOA5 magnets. Tried them in a Pearly Gates and Phat Combo...wow!
The tone is the about the same in Pearly Gates BUT it has a more power to it and doesn't sound thin at all anymore. The harmonics jump out a whole lot more now too–nice bonus!
The Phat Cat with 2 UOA5s is a killer pickup! In regards to tone, it changed the most out of the two (I can understand why people say the UOA5 is similar to A2s, as the Pearly Gates' tone didn't change as much .) More authoritative and cleared it up quite a bit, still gets a tad muddy with too much drive BUT the tone and output is perfect for the neck position IMO.
I'm running it through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and a Fender Blues Jr.–very happy with the results. I'm kicking myself though because I was going to record a before and after magnet swaps but apparently I didn't save my file....not putting the magnets back in. lol
Anyone else have any experience with UOA5s in the Pearly Gates and/or Phat Cats?
