Re: Updates On The Antiquity Surfers In My Strat
Hi Lew,
My problem is not with the highs. The body already produces nice chimey and basically strat highs. With LF vintage hots, there I don't have any problems. the same for the ant I custom bridge.
Yet my problem is the bass side, and the separation of the eq fqs. With those pickups it's like the eq is more to the mids. The bass is (I feel) too spongy for a strat. Of course people like whatever they think is good, but for me a strat should sound chimey and with that room shaking bass. I hear that on SRV recordings, especially in his live cut.
I installed a fralin baseplate to the ant I custom that I've got from you. It helped, but still no cigar. You see my problem?
I guess I like a5 rods after all.
To sum up my problem with the antI custom bridge is that it is somewhat soft, spongy, does not have the eq separation I'd like on strat bridges; even with the baseplate. It is a great pickup BTW for overdrive, does not get that wild as other strat bridges, but still I think I prefer the "usual" strat tones on the bridge. And with the LF's well no problems whatsoever on the highs/mids section. Only if I were to have more defined, more in your face kinda bass out of them. That's what I am looking for.
Actually I already have the answer (van zandts blues bridge v+ neck and middle), but I already have them in two of my strats. Obviously, I don't wanna get them for the third one as well.
