Upper fret access on Heritage LP's

Here's the gig. As some of you know, I returned my Telecaster to GC and am selling my SG. I've got my new acquisition narrowed down to a Heritage H150 and a Dean Evo Premium. My concern with the H150 is the upper fret access.

My question to you LP players. Do you learn to work around the tougher fret access? I mean, am I the only one who finds the upper frets harder to reach on the LP, and is it something you adapt to?

It can be uncomfortable, but if you have fairly long fingers it's not too bad. You can also use your palm against the high E side of the neck, without wrapping your thumb around the neck, kinda like a bass player going to the upper register. Takes some practice, but you'll get use to it.

P.S. Heritage makes great stuff. Good choice.

I've got a 150, it's a fantastic guitar! (Jazz n and A2P bridge as well as tonepros) You just kinda get used to it, kind of like how you get used to the fender body flange.

It does take some time to get used to.

I found when all I played was LPs, it was not much of an issue. But switching back and forth can be tough.

The more limited access is just one of those things you put up with because the tone is so much better with a single cutaway guitar. Much deeper and more solid bass and lower mids from a Les Paul single cutaway type guitar than from a double cutaway. Lew

Re: Upper fret access on Heritage LP's

I've always played LPs and after 20-some years I still have to pay attention when I go up to the octave. It's like hand vibrato, once you get it down all smooth and natural, you need to stay with it or it will go away.

I've got a Hamer 'burst Archtop and a couple of SGs and if I play those too long, I know I'll have to watch it when I go back to the Les Paul. And I always go back because of the tone.

The fret access is the main reason why I've abandoned LP's.

I love the look and the sound of them, but my hands are too small to comfortably reach the upper frets.

That's why I'm now looking at PRS's... :D

You mean people actually use those frets? :smack: :laugh2:

Re: Upper fret access on Heritage LP's

I rarely play real high on the neck, but It doesn't bother me when I do. I guess it's just something you get used to.
