UPS didn't break my guitar!! yay!

Sent my les paul custom across country from california to virginia and it made it in one piece. I was VERY hesitant to send it after hearing of countless horror stories of people's prized gibbons being shipped and coming back with a broken headstock. I local guitar shop packed it and shipped it for me.

The guitar arrived today (after 5 days in transit), in one piece, didn't need any kind of re set up at all AND the guitar was STILL IN TUNE! I am so relieved.

Must have a good piece of wood here ;)

Shipping an instrument is a terrifying experience , so are airplanes. My friend had this Custom guitar sort of partscasterish built at Chuck Levins , it was smoking nasty thing. He didn't take it as a carry on and it had a few tons stacked on top of it , 6 perfect string indentations on every fret the actual size of the string. He got it refretted but it never played right ever again, couldn't tune it .

I haven't had any problems shipping a guitar. Proper packing in the case and in the box is key. And always always always detune the guitar to relieve the tension on the neck and headstock. Keeping the tension on can actually contribute to a headstock break while it's being transported like that.

The Place that packed it didn't pack inside the case, only outside and they didn't detune my guitar before hand. Guess I got lucky.

How come you had to ship it in the first place? Glad the beast made it safe and sound.

Re: UPS didn't break my guitar!! yay!

Glad to hear that!!! Whew!! I always stress really bad when shipping a guitar, esp since I had one arrive pretty torn up once. I worry that itll get damaged in shipping or that the buyer will claim damage. I usually pack overkill when I ship. slack strings, bubblewrap tween strings and board, wrap guitar in bubble wrap, etc...

Re: UPS didn't break my guitar!! yay!

Ok then, that's cool but I wouldn't make a habit of shipping mid/ high end gear mate!

ya i try not to. But it really wasn't doing me any good sitting at home on the other side of the country. Its kind of like having a really nice car but only keeping it in the garage and never driving it....

Re: UPS didn't break my guitar!! yay!

Good to hear.

A Well packed and packaged guitar will make it fine via ground 99% of the time. Received 96 boxes of Fender products today (about half of those guitars) and not a single one banged up from shipping. Keep in mind most of these did not come in a hardshell case.

Re: UPS didn't break my guitar!! yay!

well i really had started to wonder with all these broken headstock gibson pics I've seen......I started to ask myself "Are gibson really that fragile? or are most of these from people not packing their guitars right for shipping?"
