Ups Strikes Again

Re: Ups Strikes Again

What has brown effed-up for you today? Tip: Digital pick of the hand off to delivery. I like the lawyer phone call as a follow-up.

How come some people have repeated bad luck with UPS/FedEx/DHL/USPS but I've never had a problem? I wonder if it's a few bad employees somewhere in the chain in a certain area...
It's just a numbers thing. Think of how many items get shipped thru them on a daily basis. Something is bound to get dropped, bounced, or thrown.

What pisses me off is you pay extra for insurance & then they treat you like you're the one in the wrong. This is the 2nd thing I've been f*cked up by them. The 1st was a Marshall cab a dude GAVE ME, I just paid for shipping (AND I bought insurance!).....it showed up with a crack thru the tolex in the angle (1966A).

They denied the claim & basically called us liars. I was so f*ckin' pissed, but eventually said screw it, the cab still worked fine.

The problem is that attitude right there. They're hoping people just say screw it & then they're not out the extra insurance money you spent in the first place.

That said, I will not rest on this one.

I think I'll find an attorney (I actually know 2 guys), I'll comb the music forums for like incidents & threaten them with a class action lawsuit for fraud & failure to do business with due care...breach of contract etc etc.....

I'm sick of these companies.

I hear ya there, but even that excuse doesn't prevent them from stepping up and making right.
I used to be an auto mechanic. I used to perform dozens of repairs a day ranging from oil changes to transmission overhauls. Point is, sure after a decade of repairs, I am bound to make a mistake. And I did.. and it was a doooosie.
I stayed late and on weekends.... and worked round the clock and took $$$ out of my pocket to make it right.
UPS job... their only job is to deliver packages... and sure the'll drop one here and there..... BUT THAT"S ALL THEY DO!!!!
They should MAKE THINGS RIGHT FOR GOD's SAKES.
Anyhow,
i'm off my soapbox now.
Goodluck
BTW... Landmines........ I like I like..

:yell: :blackeye:

When I saw the title of Terry's email, my heart friggin sank...I knew what had happened before I even read it. I feel just awful about this. I've shipped a bunch of stuff and never had this happen before. I *was* gonna use FedEx but when I got to the only local fed-ex place close to my work they were closed.

Yes, I did insure it, and yes I packed it myself. I reckon it wasn't enough when UPS decided to airdrop it to his front door without a 'chute  That thing had to have been dropped a significant distance :(

May take a bit seeing what people are saying here, but we'll get her straightened out Terry!

Re: Ups Strikes Again

UPS will give you the runaround. You won't stand a chance unless you had it insured (I can't think of any reason why somebody _wouldn't_ insure something in this day in age).

Here's what I did with my last amp shipping "issue":

1) Make sure you get proof of the value of the amplifier
2) You want proof that the amplifier wasn't damaged prior to shipping
3) Have Jeff initiate the file claim process; unfortunately the shipper always has to start it, the receiver can't.

The key is to be strict and follow through. Bug the living hell out of them. When you get all of your documentation and proof together, see if they'll cooperate (I'm betting they won't) and then threaten legal action. Have Jeff go to the UPS where he shipped it from and start getting down names of manages (district even).

The key is to apply pressure on the little guys, see if you get any improvement and if not, you complain to the next guy up. It took a month and a half of hassling and finally, threatening of legal action to get my $1900 insurance money back.

I asked some advice over on The Gear Page about what to do and got some good links out of it and good advice from one generous lawyer. Check out this website, in the courts, you will be able to win the case with this info (as the friendly lawyer told me, "read it, get to know it in and out, it's the only way you're guaranteed to win in the courtroom"): http://www.vintagerocker.com/shippingprobs.html

Btw, that's the racket they run. Also, if you use a UPS store, the guitar boxes alone cost $25, and packing materials like $10. By the time they are done packing up an instrument to "UPS standards" with their own packaging it costs $70-80 to ship a guitar. It's ridiculous. When I do my own packing and shipping through them it rarely exceeds $20.
And when you read the fine print, you'll see UPS Store can't be held accountable for their packing.

Would it be wrong to ship a land mine, so whoever drops it 5 feet off the edge of a loading dock gets a face full of shrapnel? I mean really....is that wrong?
hahaha ......
BWAHAHAHAHA... Best Idea EVER :laugh2:

Really sucks to hear about the amp, I hope all goes well....
