Hi,

I have a used black Gibson SG here from a friend. He offered it to me but had no clue on how much money to ask for.
The head seems to be overpainted because it's all black - no Gibson logo. The painting is done kinda bad - on the back you can see "crackles" in the paint. The serial number is unfortunately also overpainted and not really readable - I'd guess it to be 30616369. The tuners have "Gibson deluxe" on them.
The body backside has definitely some (rather big) scratches on it - so does the front...
The fretboard has no binding and white dots on it.
I comes with 2 black humbuckers with nothing on them.

Does anyone know what this guitar might be worth? It plays quite nice - just needs some adjustements...

whatever the price quote is in the US, its more expensive in Germany. keep that in mind.

Check out the serial number to see what year/model it is and the tuners say Deluxe then the fingerboard SHOULD be/have block inlays "ALL THE WAY" as Brian Johnson would screech to the first fret.
My guess is a '81 and the re-paint means it probably is something else, could be Angus red (Maroon)or rarer such as a sunburst. Only ultra careful stripping will tell.

If you're reading the numbers right, according to the numbering system set up in '77 the guitar is from '36, which isn't possible. If that first '3' is actually an '8', the guitar is an '86 model. I don't know how their s/n system was different before '77, so if it's older than that, I can' help you. I'm sure someone else on here knows, though.

I must be from 86 - altough it even could be a 9 in front, it's really hard to read.

by the form of the pickguard and the fretboard dots I think it's a SG special

I wonder if someone sprayed paint over it to hide a broken headstock repair..... Also be careful as there was many SG copies that looked real close to a Gibson and maybe they just spray painted over the name and put Gibson tuners on it...
