Fender has been hitting me with a decent amount of marketing email, and cookie related ads. pushing Fender Studio. At the moment, I think I have no interest. Still, I value the experience and thoughts of those who hang out here, as they often help me make winning decisions.

So, are you using, considering using, avoiding, etc. Fender Studio? Here is a quick poll and/or feel free to share your experience and thoughts in a post.

It's a DAW, like Reaper or Ableton. I downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. (I voted curious.) I haven't installed it because I wasn't sure if it had to be used with the Fender interface. You'r question reminded me of it so I asked AI. It can be used with any interface, so I may install it tomorrow.

I can report back more, then.

Since it's free, it wouldn't hurt to try it out. If you don't like it, you can uninstall it.

I think that one of the things that might make FS different, is you can install it on your phone. So if you have a small interface, like Fender Link I/O, you can capture ideas "on the road" so to speak.

I'll checkout Waveform also, just 'cause I love this stuff.

So, I installed both Fender Studio and Waveform. All the steps I'm about to describe are totally free, but you do have to login to both websites. So to start, I'd go to Fender, and create a free account. Write down the email and password you use. Click on the link that Mincer posted in post #5, and do the same for Tracktion. Again, note the email and password you create.

Download Fender Studio. It will take you to a "Microsoft Store" popup window. Follow the easy steps to download and install. The first time you run Fender Studio, you have to login using the same email and password you used on the Fender site. It doesn't appear as though you have to do it again. I've opened, and closed, the program several times and only had to do it the first time.

Waveform, (aka, Waveform Free 13), requires a few more steps. You logon to the webpage (that Mincer posted),and click on "Download." This will download a "Traction Download Manager" app. Install it. When you open it, you'll be prompted for your Tracktion email and password. At the download manager, you can now download Waveform Free 13, and you may also want to download the free "Attraktive" and "Attracktive Content". They should both install automatically after download.

Now you can open either or both. (I'd try one at a time.) Fender Studio has a really nice interface, complete with little pictures of the amp and/or pedals/effects you select. Waveform looks like it may have a little steeper learning curve.

A little later, I'll dig out my Focusrite Scarlett and configure both and try them out, and report back.

Fender Studio looks cool.

Very cool stuff, Artie! Thanks for capturing while you were working through it. I will get around to trying it and may find other "gates to hit" as I am typically not on Windows with Admin rights and my antivirus is quite noisy.

Thanks for those descriptions, Artie! Fender's seems a little more self-contained to get out ideas very quickly. I use the paid version of Waveform for all my stuff currently- over the years, I collected lots of plug-ins.

It is relatively new and I am trying to gauge the interest, or excitement, level of others to determine what I might be missing out on. It seems like that may be where everyone here is on it as well. With Fender shutting down their Forum a few years ago I was not sure where to look. Again, I know we cover a lot more than pickups here and everyone seems to be willing to share their experience. I think I will test drive it, but I am still trying to decide what the priority is.

Post your experience here- it is bound to help others.

I can get by in Reaper, but it's more of a DAW than I need for doing the simple demos I usually record and even after using it for years find that many of it's functions are complicated/confusing.

That's why I originally got into Waveform. It is as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. It has good ergonomics, and it just works well. Even easier is Garage Band, with a drop in place interface- it is very quick to get ideas out.

This is why I need to investigate. The marketing slant has been in this direction of easy to use and capture. I will try to get on it sooner rather than later.

A shout out to Artie for doing it with the 100's (? 1000's) of other things he does for us on here!

Thanks for the very kind words, but I don't do anything for you, that ya'll don't give back to me. (Except maybe, for costing me money.) :D
