V/Explorer strap buttons

Has anybody ever figured out the *magic* spot for the front strap button on goofy shaped guitars?
I don't know if it's magic? But on my V I relocated the button 1/2" from
the neck on the back. Had to do the same with my Firebird. I think the real
trick is to get yourself a 3" leather strap. Avoid nylon or any strap that is
smooth/sliprey inside. Like a basaball glove you can break in a leather
strap. Put on a crappy T-shirt wet the leather in your shoulder area
and play for a while. When the leather dries it will be molded to your
shoulder. :)

Re: V/Explorer strap buttons

I have an Explorer (kicks ass) and I found that Shaller locks are better than Dunlpos in that the guitar doesn't want to fall forward as much.

Balance-wise its perfect. Strange how the same make and model can have different balances. I've played SGs that nose dive and others that stay put. I read that it has to do with subtle differences in the woods in their weight. Different cuts of mahogany can vary in their weight due to mineral content, thus changing the balance of the guitar.

Re: V/Explorer strap buttons

my gibson explorer has the most amazing balance on any guitar ive ever played. it hangs just where i want it. its strap button is right on the neck joint. my ltd ex-351 is waaay neckheavy though, and the button is on like the side of the body (like where it would be on a LP or strat or something). my ltd viper is a little bit neck heavy too, but the strap button is behind the top horn on the back of the guitar.....i bet if it was behind the neck joint itd be better, but i dont wanna f**k up the cool see thru black cherry finish by having a hole in the back of the guitar, so its ok with me.
