Re: V-neck shape
Coming from a Flamenco / Classical background, I could never get on
with V necks, that was until a few years ago when I fell in love with a US 57
RI Strat, albeit with a mild V.
Given that I was NEVER a thumb over player and always adhered to the
strict classical technique, it took a bit of time and an open mind.
I can still comfortably play with my thumb in the middle of the neck
and also relax my grip and thumb over as the need / desire requires.
Since I started putting electric guitars together, I've experimented with many
shapes and can now get along with almost any neck shape.
I've purpoely put different neck shapes on my guitars to give them some
character and personality to highlite the individuality.
Got an 80's shredder strat with assymetrical shape, very thin but thicker
over the D & A strings, a thin soft V Levison Blade strat, a hard V, slightly
on the thicker side tele and a quite thick D shaped LP clone.
My acoustic necks are different again, steel string, Flamenco, classical....
Give it a fair try, you might get to like it and it does lend itself to quite a few
left hand techniques.
Cheers,
Will.
