V/V/T wiring questions

I recently posted about some fun wiring options for my SG, I was going to go with the triple shots then series/phase for 2 push pulls. Ordered the shots, they didn't work out. So I'm sitting with it as split/split on 2 push/pulls and I''m rather satisfied. I LOVE the coil split options I'm able to get, I get a great single coil sound and I couldn't be happier.

I've just acquired a Schecter C-1. I enjoy it, it needs new pickups and I don't like the "coil tapping" that's installed. I think it's because it's an actual coil tapping and not splitting like I like. It sounds like it's still a humbucker but volume is cut down, like a coil tap might sound. But there's a hum, and I look at the wiring and it looks to be coil split wiring. I much prefer a definitive coil split sound. Then again, this could just be the pickups.

Though, I also could fine without the 3 controls. Right off the top of my head, I was thinking of simply coil splitting on both V knobs and calling it a day. Then I thought...what if I made it V/T/3 -way toggle? (replacing the 3rd knob with a 3-way to eliminate any cosmetic changes to the guitar) What kind of options could I find by doing that?

I love tonal options on a guitar, and I do use them. I use my splitting a TON! I must have coil splitting in this set up, I'll never have a humbucker guitar without that again. I love it way too much. I dig the phase reversal sound, but I'm curious about series parallel. I'm thinking the series parallel might be more useful for me. Would I need a 3way toggle? Is a V/V/T able to do Split/Split/ series parallel?

For now I'm going with my generic splitting on my vol pots, since that's really easy and I know I like it. Plus I can always rewire everything later.

Re: V/V/T wiring questions

Most humbuckers are wired in Series to begin with, and Parallel is a wiring option(not "Series Parallel" as there's no such thing, but Series "and/or" Parallel options, where you can have the pickup wired permanently for Series or Parallel, or have a switch set up to select between Series and Parallel).

Any control setup can use series/parallel, as it's not in the knobs, but in the switches. You could have 4 push/pulls on your SG and have the pickups wired straight from the switches to the 3-way and never touch the actual pot prongs for volume or tone and still get all the switching, you'd just not have volume or tone control.

Not all pickups sound equally good when split, so that may simply be the issue with the Schecter. Or maybe your SG is wired to split inversely of the C-1.

You can replace the 3rd knob with a 3-way toggle, but you'll have to enlarge the hole to fit the switch as no one makes a 3-way toggle with a shaft the same size as a pot shaft.

Re: V/V/T wiring questions

yeah that's ok with the hole. I have to enlarge them for the push pulls anyway. I wired the SG to use the adjustable coil in the neck and the slug in the bridge. which may be opposite in the schecter. Plus I have aftermarket seymour duncans anyway. I understand about the whole series/parallel thing. Just not sure if it's doable in the setup I'm doing, or even worth it.
