V1 spot location

Re: V1 spot location

I feel like an idiot. I swear someone told me tht the v1 was closest to the trannies. All this time I've been under that assumption. Can't wait to tube roll properly.

Re: V1 spot location

Nice little stable. Be sure to post reviews. I haven't the cash to flip tubes that much so it's good to hear what's out there.

I really like the mullard in v1 (which I thought was v3) Sovtek Lps is the best I tried in v4/pi

Re: V1 spot location

If you've got the coin, go for some NOS. A friend gave me a stable of tubes, and some of the BEST vintage tubes out there in this little cache. If you can get a hold of a Telefunken 12ax7, do it. They're popular for a reason. I have 3 in my Plexi I built, and holy ****, does it sound good.

Re: V1 spot location

Hows the jet city going? I put a Eminence GB speaker in, it was used but only played loud a few times so it need a good break in. It sounds real similar to the stock but a little warmer on the end and a bit more low end

So far so good, I installed a British V30 in it, sounds a lot better. Should have some more tubes to put in as well since I'm rolling with all Mullards in my vht

Re: V1 spot location

Cool! those 30's are hotter sounding, I could tell when i plugged in my boogie cab. Were the stock is more vintage sounding, not sure if your stock was broken in.

LPS work best in PI while they last!. I had a few going wrong after very few months. Your best deal there, without going to 12AT7 is to throw there a NOS 5751 (stay away new production 5751 ones) tube.
Try that LPS in V2, after that tasty Mullard RI in V1. Throw a cheap (but high gainy) chinesse in V3 and put a 12AT7 (NOS or EH long plate) or NOS 5751 in V4.

May have to try the first part tonight, can't switch tube types though. Manual states that tubes types are not interchangable and all must be 12ax7s.

Re: V1 spot location

V1 is usually always a safe term to use for the first preamp spot.
However in ENGL amps for example, V1 is the first power tube, and V5 is the first preamp tube.

A more accurate name for the first preamp tube would be the Input tube. You're right though, it always either starts on the guitar input jack side of the amp or is positioned closest to the guitar input jack.
