Valvebucker

"What an earth is a Valvebucker®..!? Simply put, Valvebucker is the only tube driven electric guitar pickup in the world."

Re: Valvebucker - Anyone heard of this? Thoughts?

One of the key strong points on standard electromagnetic guitar pickups is they don't break when you bump your guitar. I'm not quite sure how well these work in that department.

Re: Valvebucker - Anyone heard of this? Thoughts?

I’m not routing anything of mine for that. Requires an XLR tether to a foot pedal, plus powering and heat dissipation of the tubes under my hand? No thank you.

Re: Valvebucker - Anyone heard of this? Thoughts?

That seems like a fun experiment. But it probably sounds terrible without the Tube-driven Cable technology. Or a set of PureTube strings.

Re: Valvebucker - Anyone heard of this? Thoughts?

It appears to simply be a tube preamp built into the guitar. I don't really see the point except for "bragging rights". Also, the power is 12VAC. So it's either going to be that starved plate mode, or they put a reverse transformer in there, (like the Twin Tube pedals), to have high voltage floating around inside the guitar. Doesn't sound like a good idea. Interesting idea, but not a practical one.

I bet it’s really cool if you really like brass welding goggles and fiddly 150yr old tech.

I hate to be that guy, but guano is a term specified for seabirds and bats.

Yeah but bullsh!t is unpoetic, vulgar, and occasionally collects mod warnings on some forums

Also, maybe it comes from a RedBull w/wings...on a beach, lol

Wow, thread was totally hijacked.

I thought it was a cool idea, impractical but cool.

Re: Valvebucker - Anyone heard of this? Thoughts?

In the 80's, the general advertising consensus was "if you a slap a tube in it, it sounds better!".

I see things haven't changed 40 years later... and the "slap a tube in it!" schtick has finally reached Viking-land.

Re: Valvebucker - Anyone heard of this? Thoughts?

If it's just basically an active pickup with a tube pre-amp, then why not just put the tube in an external pedal? That would seem to make more sense. But, I guess, they would lose much of the gimmicky sales angle. Then again, I'm not sure how it really works so ... nevermind.

Hey, at least they're trying to come up with new stuff. I didn't think I needed to rush out and recreate those tones, but I like when people try to push guitars in new directions.

Re: Valvebucker - Anyone heard of this? Thoughts?

This could actually be a cool idea if they used that new Korg NuTube, which would operate on a 9-volt battery.
