Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

u dont, u just buy a laney tf200 (hahaha)

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

Never. Preamp tubes don´t really wear out in the sense that power amp tubes do. If you want you can change it like every 2-3 years or so, but I honestly dont think it will really make much of a difference ;)

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

The 12AX7 in my AVT50 fuzzed out after about a year and a half. That was after putting about 12-20 hours a week on it. I change mine once a year now so I don't have to worry about it flaking out in the middle of a gig. It's only $20 for a good one.

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

my amp (crate vc3112) is 10 yrs old and has its originial 8 tubes (4 pre, 4 power) yea it needs new ones, but not yet

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

IT seem to recall that they will actually run without the tube. Been a long time though. Don't take that to the bank.

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

When I had mine I ran it about 3 hrs a day 4 days a week and changed the thing every 8 months. One time I forgot to and when the tube went bad all I got was static out of the amp.

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

Like Zerbeus said, Almost never. Unless it goes Microphonic on you. I've got
a 8080 Valvestate I bought in 92' Still got the original EEC83 in it.

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

I used to have VS-100 for 6 years and never changed the ECC83 but although I played a lot I never turn the volume past halfway and only a couple of times I crank it halfway and that was moslty at gigs...Now I own a 79' Fender Twin Reverb...the tubes are original fender labeled 6L6GC's,12AT7s,7015s and a 12AX7A but I'm they're replaced a few times cause it sounds brilliant...this is my first true tube amp and I wonder when to change the power tubes...I think when I sense some corruption in sound and when the volume level reduces severely...well any advice would be appreciated

Normally with reuguar use every few years, No rule of thumb just
preventive maintanace. When a tube starts going bad, It will sound
harsh or raggy. If your power tubes are glowing Bright orange you
may need new tubes or a rebias.

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

I used to own a first series 80w Valvestate, it only had a preamp tube on the dirty channel circuit. Not sure whether yours is the same model or not (I think mine was a 8088 or something like that, it was a long time ago), but I swapped the 12ax7 out for a lower gain version with the same output (12at7 iirc) and then used it for cleans. Much nicer tone, IMO.

I'm SO glad I sold it, personally I hate solid state guitar amps and will never go back, but good luck with it.

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

Cheers guys, uve helped me majorly, ill leave it for now, and only change it when i feel like i want a change or it needs it! Yeah stefan i have the old vers (8080). IT does the job for me!

Re: Valvestate amp - how often does the valve need a change

I currently own a VS102R which is the 2nd generation of the valvestate.
I got it new and its something like 4 years old, I don’t play it much but I would love to have a new distortion sound out of it more like a rectifier type , fat and crunchy.
Will I get that if I replace the valve ? Which valve will do the trick ?
