Valvetronix variable wattage and master volume?

Is it possible, by cranking the master volume on the valvetronix series and lowering the channel volume to push the tube thus getting the same result as the variable wattage? And if so, what's the point of it anyway?

Wow! Lots of Valvetronix questions lately! :beerchug:

Not sure about the channel volumes,but yes,if you crank the master volume up past half way,you push the tube(s) harder....The amp starts to open up pretty nicely and like most amps,sounds alot better as you crank it up...Especially for rockin out!

One of the cool things about this amp is that the tone still sounds convincing enough or inspiring enough even at the 1 watt setting in your bedroom...The Munson Curve comes into play with the lows at lower volumes,but you still get the same overall tone from the amp....

When hooking up an external volume control to the Foot controller,you still retain gain but you only lose volume while you volume back on the master volume pedal...I Love this amp and I've been pushing it ever since I bought mine...

My god...I saw them first run. I'm so old I can remember when Fonzie didn't have wrinkles and Mary Ann was every teenage boy's dream girl.

Yep--I'm 42. 13 more years and I get my AARP card. Can you imagine if we had the foresight to tell our parents to buy the amps and especially the guitars of the 60's? Maybe a Vette or two, LOL. And of course Microsoft or Oracle in 1985.

I've often wondered how much of the actual feel and tone is related to the tube in Valvetronix amps. I'm assuming it's purpose is to create a digital modeling pre, fed to a mini tube section that warms everything up and adds touch responsiveness, then it finally gets amplified by the transistor solid state section. I think the amp sounds bigger with each click on the wattage control, but you can add a more compressed feel by turning down the wattage, and cranking the master. When you're in that mode, spin the amp dial, and see which amps really benefit from that.

Another cool hidden feature is that the volume for the headphone also controls the recording out, so you can dial it nicely with the trim pot on a mixing board.

And something I haven't mentioned and it's probably very important! I "ALWAYS" use a decent surge protector that I plug both my Valvetronix and my Cyber Twin into....I've had the VT for a year or more and my CT since 2001 and luckily I've had no problems....I'm talking a really decent surge protector like you use on a computer....It helps a bit.

Goes between the ac cable of your amp and the wall outlet...Protects(to some degree)spikes or surges in power from your electrical outlet...It's these horrible surges or sudden spikes that play havoc with our gear...Every little bit of protection helps!

I guarantee the AARP will be knocking at your door within 5 years. They start early on the young ones these days. I started getting the AARP junk mail at 47. Eight years later, it still fills the mailbox.

Where is the headphone volume control? I'm not too sure on what your saying here.

It's protection for any amp,effects,etc....Won't hurt a thing either..Mesa Boogie amps have a circuit protecter across the primary of their power transformers also..

Hey Tim, It's on the back. And to add to what Joneser was talking about. You can direct record with this amp by plugging a 1/4" jack into the headphone out and running to either a soundboard/recorder or direct to your computer's sound card. The jack also has a dedicated volume control right above it.

Are you wanting to slave your Vox amp or are you wanting to use your Vox amp as a preamp to drive another amp? Sounds like noise and harsh tones await....The headphone out isn't a line out nor a speaker out and it's going to have a very hot output...
