Which of these two pickups would be the closest to the Van halen 1 sound(first album).Im using the Duncan Custom SH-5 right now and it seems to be fine but would the Dimarzio Super Distortion get me closer.
None of the clips that are out there(many)have achieved the Van halen 1 sound(first album) so you keep trying.
Ed H,im not upset I just need to venture on and keep trying diffenent things.I do have a new Seymour Duncan Custom SH-5 in black with no logo on the pickup thats how I ordered it,if interested pm me,Thanks.........
not to turn this into a pissing contest but this guy gets even closer to VH 1
he is using a dimarzio super D in a ash strat with a floyd
Sounds good!!! Wish the same clip could be done with a PAF type pickup[78,59,etc...] to compare!
I don't want anyone's head to explode, but I never thought Ed's early tone was the be all, end all anyway.
Good yes, but no where near worth all this drama.
Personally for me, George Lynch's cranked Marshall tone on BFTA is much better.

VHholic- a (former?) member here used to have a great website where he would cop early VH tones with various guitars, pickups, and amps. He was able to get a 5150 there (with greenbacks). He'd actually record himself over various VH tracks, was pretty amazing.
