Re: Versatile PAF-type pickups for Les Paul?
SH5 Custom.
SH5 Custom.
Is it me or does everyday someone say i want a pickup for classic rock & blues, occasionally some metal? Someone needs to market a solution.
I don't know why you're not listening to Dominus, especially since he has the correct answer.
PAF Pros......listen to Jason Suecoff's tones, that's what he uses......
'59, Pearly Gates, Demon. You're not listening to me.
it seems to me that a lot of music that is played having that paf sound (blues old rock) is usually in the neck position.
Why don't you do us all a favor and buy the PATB-1, which Rich Ward uses. Then report back with a full tonal description, then I can decide if I want one or not without having to spend any money.
I got an A4 PATB-1N and an A8 PATB-3.
I'll report back in January when I get my Mayones back from the luthier for a MAJOR mod.
HTH,
Thank you all for the suggestions! I think I'll try the '59 in the bridge and the PG in the neck. The A5 magnet in that '59 should give me the tightness and punch I'm after without sacrificing too much of that vintage mojo and the PG's mids and treble should work fine for leads. If I'll need a bit more in the bridge position, I'll try the Demon or even the Custom.

The PG in the neck is just about as good as you can get.
