First of all, I'd like to thank you guys for putting up with my dumb polls and questions about all these options. It's my first time putting a guitar together and I wanted to do it the right way, you guys gave me a lot of good advice.

So, the only thing I haven't decided on now is Mahogany or Basswood for the body wood. I decided not to go with a laminate top because it's going to be painted over anyway, and it's a pricey addition.

Dual humbucker strat. I tend to favor a dark/warmer sound. I play jazz fusion as well as 80's shred, to classic rock and everything in between. I like the tone satch and petrucci get from their basswood body guitars, that was a consideration too.

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

I still say basswood on account your other guitars are mahogany :)

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

mahogany. but i'm bias cos my fav. axe is mahogany.

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

Darker/warmer? You definitely NEED Mahogany ;)

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

i'd try the rare Ynagoham wood if you can find some!

Doesn't that grow in bayville, ny? :burnout:

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

Basswood. In my opinion, it has a much sweeter midrange that mahogany.

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

actually only down on the beach from my road is the only known place to find it. it's a very rare wood.

+1 for two reasons...
1) It's not in the List
2) It really really really makes your Guitar warmer.... :smack:

my guitar teacher has a maple bodied charvel.

#1: heavy!

#2: icepick!

Basswood.

The warmoth Soloist bodies (I assume that's what it is) are fairly thin and mahagony doesn't quite have the warmth that you expect when you think of mahagony because you usually think of a thick bodied les paul.

Eheh that's just my personal preference.

I voted for mahogany though.

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

Yeah.. if you want a warm guitar use mahogany.. lathough I'd never want a mahogany Strat... only ash or alder.. dunno... these are stratwoods

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

I think mahogany is maybe a little tighter sounding than basswood, but i just love the midrange sound in a basswood guitar. And i think it sounds louder acoustically, and this is comparing a mahogany dean tuneomatic guitar to a basswood peavey predator. The dean has a little more sustain, but i think thats just the locking trem in the predator.

What he said. Plus basswood is a very soft wood that soaks up a lot of finish and does not take abuse well.

Re: Very last poll of mine, final option for warmoth super strat.

^Wow. That sounds familiar. Almost like it was word for word out of Warmoth's description!

Is it? It might be. I've heard that from several different sources, though. Don't get me wrong... I still like the tone but sometimes sustain can be an issue (especially on cheaper guitars) and they're right... it doesn't take abuse very well.
