VHT Deliverance! (amp hunt in England)

well i came back from my Trip to England and amp hunt.

i tried some old Marshalls and i have to say they sounded good, but at rediculously high volume. even the Master volume ones. they had punch like crazy but were buzzy at low volumes. they needed to be cranked so much that my wife was looking at me like " there is no way your gonna bring that into the house!" LOL.

then i finally found the Crate GX head through a 4x12 ( it isnt as smooth as the GTX ) plus i had a new VHT Deliverance 60 watt through a 4x12 right next to it!

so here was the test!

i plugged into the Crate and was pleasantly surprised! i played some Stevie Ray through it and it sounded nice and full. i dont really use that sound so i cant say much about it, but it sounded good enough to inspire me to play that way.
then i played some Halen through it and it did sound great. A guy came into the room and gave me a thumbs up for the playing and sound i suppose. it was really good. i thought it did do marshall better than marshall. it lacked a bit of the marshall punch but hey this is a cheap SS amp. and it did awesome.

then i finally plugged into the Deliverance head and it was TOTALLY amwesome. the best amp i have ever played to my ears. i have to say though that it wasnt way better than the Crate. it was just better. This to me is totally amazing for a SS amp.
i mean it is that good.
Thank God in a way that more people are not so intrigued by the Crate name and the prices are relatively low.

the funny thing is that a couple of guys came in while i was playing and were staring at the Crate like " what the "#$!"$ is that???"
and i turned to my wife and told her that they are freaking out cause of the sound that is coming out of that thing.

so that is it, i am gonna buy the Crate.
i will however buy later on the Deliverance and plug it into the Crate cabinet.

but who knows maybe the Crate will be good for me for what i want it for.
The Deliverance is THE AMP for me though. It has THE SOUND right out of the box. Even my wife looked at me and said, " thats it!". Awsome amp, what can i say. It has beatifull smooth gain even at low levels. the Less/More switch on it really gives it a nice plexi/souped up plexi sound. i felt it was a bit looser, in a good way than the VHT pitbull series amps. totally amazing.

i am now satisfied.

Sometimes it's best to just get what you really want , especially if your wife says "that's it"

Nice reviews and FWIW, my Crate V32 Palomino has been used religiously for the past month and a half and I love it... these guys are getting better all the time :fing2:

I found the Deliverance to do a Halen type tone out of the box. not exactly Van Halen but better to my ears than the Marshall. ALOT better.
remember this is personal taste.

i had to hear both to see what i liked.
on recordings i love hearing old Marshalls but when i went and tried them the Deliverance was much better to my ears. Mind you i havent yet heard the Marshall plexi.

the Deliverance can play really low as well from the Depth knob it has.
i just can describe the distortion as smooth a bit squishy, lots of harmonics, not too many. it also is well defined.
i played some ZZtop on it and it sounded great. Halen sounded amazing as well.
you roll off on the guitar volume and it cleans up nicely.
i just loved the controls on the amp even if i didnt fiddle with them too much.
it sounds good no matter what the setting is. it just sounds good different. you know?
it isnt like you have to dial in a good tone, it is already there. you just dial in a different good tone.

the Less/more switch is too amazing. keep it on Less and it is old Marshally but at lower volumes. when you switch it to More it soups it up. hard to describe really. i just thought that it was waaaay more three dimensional than the Pitbull series. i could have sworn it had reverb or something in it.

one way to put it is. It just inspired me to play and i couldnt stop. i even was goofy and went back to the store after 4 hours so i could hear it again! i walked in the second time and said " sorry but can i hear that thing again?" and they were too cool, they said sure go ahead!
so i did. this was after i heard the old JMP Marshall and had the sound fresh in my mind. i thought it was much better. at least for what i want it.

The only amp that has made me feel this way almost, is the SMF ( sound Machine Factory). goofy looking amp that sounds better than most of everything. im serious. waaay too expensive though or i would have bought it.

Yeah my wife totally dug it as well. She would have been cool as well if i bought it right there. She actually told me, its not bad if you like it so much and will have it for the rest of whatever.

You do have a great wife! You should have snagged the Deliverance right there and then when she still thought so!

Thanks for the review again, I'll have a look at one when I too get somewhere where they actually have some amps for sale.

Not yet. I'm pretty much settled on my amps, but I always love checking out new ones, mostly to stay abreast of all the newest stuff. They don't call me joneser for nothin! haha

Yeah Frefire,

i really liked the Pitbull series amps alot, but the Deliverance i love. it sounds just squishier, is the only way i can put it. Looser warmer sweeter. The pitbull seemed tighter to me, more modern.
this is really awesome. i wonder why they dont get more hype. plus the are pretty darn cheap if you think about it for a boutique quality amp.

The Marshalls were also good but needed to be turned up LOTS. i think Marshalls have awesome tone and especially punch but you have to work with them alot more. of course i havent spent time with marshalls so i cant say so much.

I think i REALLY need to try one of the Deliverance heads.... or does anyone know if VHT makes a rack version (should it strike my fancy)?

Though I´m kinda waiting on Jeff´s new amp as well....


What can I say, if it´s not a Monster, I don´t need it... already got a piddly head :laugh2:

its near Denmark Street. i think it is also called Turnkey or something like that.

the guy that showed me around in there was a guy called Caleb. really nice kid that was super helpful. if you go there tell him i said hi and thanks again from me ( the guy from Greece that was playing Halen) cause i kinda bust his balls cause i came in twice to play the amps.

if you want the Marshall cause it probably still is up for sale, go to Charlie Chandler. Real nice guy again in Hampton Wick, you can get there from the over ground rail from Waterloo. nice quality JMP 78 100 watt for 500 pounds! great price if you ask me. great amp too, just needs to be cranked way loud! not well applicable for my needs.

the guys in Sohosoundhouse were great though. and i would have bought that VHT from them. i mean how often does a wife tell you to buy a 1000pound toy??!! but warranties are weird and not really applicable in different countries from those that you bought the amp from.

plus people here in Greece are weird ( for lack of better curses which i cant say here) if i bought the amp elswhere they wouldnt help me with support if something happened to the amp.

The crap thing is that now that i know what i want i have to wait cause the boneheads here for the Crate say they are gonna bring the amps at the end of the month ( now what idiots bring in new merchandise AFTER xmas??!)

and the VHT still isnt in here at the local dealer.

AND I AM DYING FOR AN AMP!!!

seriously though ZAK try out the Crate ( the 120 watt one with digital fx the GTX212, cause it makes a big difference) and tell me what you thought of it cause i think it is a killer amp for SS. blows away lots of tube amps in my book.

Hey Tone?
I know Turnkey(soho soundhouse) and Charlie Chandlers Guitar Experience very well indeed.( i think i put his shop down on my recommended list when you asked about UK shops a couple of weeks ago) I work about 5 mins walk from Turnkey, and have spent a fair bit of money there over the years.
I have always used Charlie Chandler whenever I have had any guitar repairs/ mods that needed doing, as his shop is very close to where I used to live. Funnily enough, it is because of him that I now own my marshall jmp master volume amp. I bumped into him in a UK guitar show a couple of years back and asked for advice about what to get, and he recommended i look out for one of those. His shop has some quality gear, but isnt very big so its quite hard to try out stuff in there. But i would highly recommend him to anyone in the UK who needs work done on a guitar.
I agree about what you said the marshall needing to be cranked. I hope you manage to get the amp soon. I will definitely try one of those out next time i go into Turnkey, and will say hello to Caleb for you.
Although its useful being 5 mins walk from denmark street/turnkey, its also a curse, as i end up spending way more than i should do on guitar stuff.

Oh yeah, thanks Zak, i forgot that you gave me that recommended list.

actaully i might have probably bought that old Marshall and resold it here in Greece and maybe made a few bucks. but the market here is weird and i might have just been stuck with it for a while.
really good price though for the condition of the amp.

Next time i come to England maybe we can meet up and go guitar and amp looking, have a beer or two.
